Biggest Grossing Film of 2016

Postby LustForLeith » Mon Apr 04, 2016 3:37 pm

Hi!

I did a blog in this earlier in thw year forgot about it until I was looking on Betway.

When I wrote my blog Captain America and Rouge One were both 6/4. Now Rouge One is evens while Captain America is 2/1.

First up, Batman v Superman. It opened to a massive fanfare and terrible reviews. I don't think it's that bad, yes it's overlong (director Zack Synder has said there's another 40 minutes of footage!) and the introduction of Doomsday is a bit of a mess. It Ben affect is easily the best Batman while Wonder Woman is a much needed female hero of our times.

But word of mouth is affecting box office and it won't trouble the biggest films of the year. In America it might not trouble Deadpool!

Now, I'm not sure of Betway terms for this bet but if it ends right at the end of 2016 and with Star Wars Rouge one being released in the middle of December then there's no way it can be the biggest grossing film of 2016.

Captain America is released in a few weeks. It's got a great ad campaign plus a cameo from Spiderman. I think for those two factors alone it's going to be the film to beat.

Bet with caution as I can't see if the are any terms and conditions which would allow for a period of time after 2016 to be included.

Captain America to be the biggest grossing film of 2016 2/1

Odds from Betway for 'Highest Grossing Movie of 2016':

1/1 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
2/1 Captain America: Civil War
11/4 Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
11/4 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
20/1 Finding Dory
25/1 The Jungle Book
33/1 Suicide Squad
50/1 Independence Day: Resurgence
50/1 Alice Through the Looking Glass
50/1 X-Men: Apocalypse
66/1 Doctor Strange
66/1 Warcraft

No terms and conditions make this a potential minefield as folks who bet on last year found out...

...mind you, it looked like Paddy Power changed their minds in-running to suit themselves as to how they settled the winner.

No idea what William Hill settled it as.

Hope Betway don't be sneaky and include 'Deadpool' and 'Zootopia' as runners when there isn't any odds quoted.

Is it worldwide? Is just US & Canada?

Cinemablend agree with you about 'Captain America: Civil War', Lust.

In regard to the 2015 results. In fairness to Paddy Power they paid me out, they had issues, but they looked in there rules, and they made me aware of what was happening etc.

10/10 for them, its unusual!

Did they? Nice of Paddy Power and even nicer for you, Brownie!

Do post updates or amendments, folks. I generally try my darndest to round up what the actual result of an event is or how a bookie has settled a bet.

Huh. No fan of 188Bet but they have opening weekend odds:

'Captain America: Civil War' prohibitively should beat out the $166m set by 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice'. Don't give a prayer for 'X-Men: Apocalypse' being a factor though.

None of 'em will get over $200m.

Reviews for Captain America are in at it's said to be amazing with a lot of critics saying it's the best Marvel film ever.

I really think it will be the top grossing film of the year. And I think it can break 200 million but not sure if I've brave enough to bet!

'Captain America: Civil War' to beat 'BvS: DoJ' (out to 3.20) and 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (still 26.00) is into 1.30 at 188Bet to have the biggest opening weekend box office of the three films.

No guarantee but the tracking and reviews have indeed been overwhelmingly positive.

I need to contact Betway about this. It looks like they might be going by 'end of the calendar year' which surely gives 'Captain America: Civil War' more-or-less a huge headstart over 'Rogue One'.

It won't affect it's box office gross in the long run but what might affect it breaking weekend records is that it's running time. And two hours twenty four minutes long it won't be shown as much in cinemas as if it was shorter.

Industry predictions suggest $175m at the very least but that it likely won't join the $200m club...it's difficult to predict how well or not well it will do.

Meanwhile, the current cumulative totals are...

'Zootopia' $883.7m, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' $829.3m and 'Deadpool' $758.6m.

Can you still bet in the opening weekend market? I have a feeling it may top $200 million...

'Captain America: Civil War' into 1.20, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' out to 4.00 and 'X-Men: Apocalypse' still 26.00.

Still 3.75 to beat 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' opening weekend record. I don't think it'll happen.

Don't think anywhere else are playing with any kind of box office market apart from Betway (still haven't got back to me about the T&C of their bet yet).

Hmmm. 'Only' an estimated $180m but it beat 'BvS: DoJ' and that's all that matters...'X-Men: Apocalypse' ain't coming anywhere near that.
