Today sees the BAFTAS being awarded. At this ‎point in time it's quite late to start picking winners of any decent value but there's no harm in trying!
There was one category that caught my eye and that's Best British Film. It throws up surprises not necessary with what wins but with films that are considered to be British, such as Gravity. While not a British film on first sight, it was nominated as it was filmed at Pinwood Studios.
This year, the nominated films are
Brooklyn 8/11
The Danish Girl 6/4
The Lobster 18/1
Ex Machina 10/1
Amy 22/1
45 Years 12/1
It's quite a tight category as you'd come to expect. ‎
Brooklyn has recently shortened in price and replaces The Danish Girl as the favourite. Both have a solid chance.
45 Years has been a big hit with critics since its release while The Lobster, quite an offbeat offering, has broken through into the mainstream.
In my opinion Ex Machina could have featured well in the Oscars if it had been released later in 2015.
But the film that's caught my attention is Amy and here's why.
In the last twelve years, two documentaries have won this award. Man on Wire and Touching The Void.
Amy is the second biggest grossing documentary released in Britain but the biggest grossing British documentary of all time.
The films director is Asif Kapadia who has directed a film that won this award previously when The Warrior claimed the prize.
It's a risky one but I don't think Amy deserves to be such a big price.
Amy to win Best British Film at the Bafta's 22/1
The Bafta's
Not the worst shout in the world but it's probably 22/1 for a reason.
Odds as they are right now an hour and a half before the show...

I've backed 'Brooklyn' as it's nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars but I'm seen nibbles for '45 Years' and even 'Ex Machina'.
Have stated what I think will be the main winners in the Oscars thread but here they are anyway...
Film - The Revenant
Director - Alejandro G Inarritu
Actor - Leonardo DiCaprio
Actress - Brie Larson
Supporting Actor - Idris Elba (Mark Rylance still heavy odds-on though)
Supporting Actress - Alicia Vikander
British Film - Brooklyn
Rising Star - John Boyega (will be extremely upset if he inexplicably loses)

Yup, 'Brooklyn' justifies' the odds-on quotes.
