The Apprentice

Postby LustForLeith » Tue Oct 20, 2015 1:41 pm

First of all, was it true that bookies were taking bets on the Great British Bake Off? Being a keen Special market dabbler I never saw any bets being taken on it. Saw on the front of a paper that bookies had been stung for £10 million but realised the paper was The Daily Star so I took it with a massive pinch of salt.

Which leads me to The Apprentice. I noticed Betfair have odds up on the winner, but surely this has already been established? Wasn't it filmed ages ago?

I remember when it started and I saw some bets being taken I was tempted to phone up Lord Sugars company and ask if I could speak to such and such and go through the contestants until I found out who it was!

I don't get why bookies put up odds on pore-recorded events. stupid of 'em and they've only themselves to blame if those in the know bet accordingly.

Betfair remarkably have odds:

Joseph Valente 4/9 (WHUT!? REALLY!? HE'S THE CHOSEN ONE!?)
Vana Koutsomitis 4/1
Richard Woods 5/1
Brett Butler-Smythe 10/1 (the only other one being bet on if at all)
Ruth Whiteley 14/1
Scott Saunders 16/1
Selina Waterman-Smith 18/1
Gary Poulton 22/1
April Jackson 25/1
Charleine Wain 28/1
Jenny Garbis 28/1
Sam Curry 28/1
David Stevenson 40/1
Elle Stevenson 50/1
Mergim Butaja 80/1
Natalie Dean 100/1

That's what I was thinking...how can they list odds for something which has already been won? Or has it?

I know it will be a well kept secret but surely a bit of digging might reveal something?

Five left. Can't imagine any sensible bookie will still put odds up.

Charleine Wain
Gary Poulton
Joseph Valente
Richard Woods
Vana Koutsomitis

The dollars, Euros, pesetas and Yen were surely on Joseph to win from the start.

OFF-TOPIC: Also, yeah Ladbrokes amongst others were posting odds BEFORE 'The Great British Bake Off' started. I'd imagine it as a 'loss leader' in the vain hope that those in the know would eventually lose their ill-gotten winnings by knowing in advance who won the show back to them.

Nadiya...12/1!? Silly.

Betfair has Joseph as favourite at 4/5...

Is he worth it bet? Not seen the show for weeks

Did not look at Betfair before posting this morning. Their odds are...

Joseph 4/5, Vana 13/10, Richard 9/4, Charleine 8/1 and Gary 12/1.

No idea if Joseph is the sure thing I thought he was now but he likely appeals to the salesman side of Alan Sugar despite his maddening hairstyle. Vana is likely the most sensible of the other four left.

Have to assume from the odds that it is Joseph vs. Vana in the final with Richard as the spoiler but a slight drift from 4/9 to 4/5 for Joseph is mildly alarming.

No firm opinion on this. Be careful how you go.

I'm still unsure how bookies are willing to bet on something that as far as I can tell has already got an outcome!

It's Joseph vs. Vana. When I checked the odds Joseph had moved back to 4/7 but Vana was steadfast at 13/10.

I think the decision is supposed to be 'live' but I honestly don't know. Barring a last minute change of heart by Alan Sugar, the money will likely be proven right in that it always was Joseph along.
