Any other value in here?
The way I see this, there are 4 sports people on this list who have done things that are very, very special. Jess Ennis (fantastic though she is) is not one.

Wiggins won the Tour, Farah won the long distance double, Murray won a grand slam and McIlroy headed the European and US money lists and became the youngest multiple major winner since Seve.

McIlroy and Murray should be fighting it out for a top 3 spot (on sporting achievement) I think and the 33/1 available now for Rory to be 2nd or 3rd seems very big.

being gud at sport
Indeed. Little better than gud though, don't you think? Note that I'm not saying that he will win, or even that he will definitely garner enough votes to get in the top 3...

What I'm saying is that purely on sporting achievement, Murray has been the UK's outstanding performer of the year. "Just" winning the US open, getting to the final of Wimbledon, winning an Olympic gold medal AND an Olympic silver medal is impressive enough in a sport in which we have underachieved perennially for the best part of 100 years... but doing this at a time when he has to play against three men who are widely proclaimed to be amongst the best players ever makes his efforts this year particularly special!

Anyway, whilst everyone goes on about Murray being a grumpy git, people seem to forget how bloody miserable Bradley Wiggins is!

:P

I would side with Mo Farah,

Saturday night performances, the MOBot which everyone knows, and to top it off, a thoroughly nice chap

Come on Mo

Wiggins was great as was Ennis and Murray. The latter would have grabbed it had he won Wimbledon

Cannot see how Andy Murray has been the outstanding performer of this year but it's all a matter of opinion.

I backed Jessica Ennis back in august at about 10/1 and her odds are now into nearly 4/1 on Betfair ( Andy Murray is 33/1 ) so hoping that she can win :hope:
