Thoughts? I think Paris is the victim of patriotic money flooding towards London, which really has no chance.

Agree - one thing for certain is that London will be bad value because of the dumb patriotic money

Although surely if any of the English based companies likely to make money from the games thought about it they would be hedging by backing Paris???

And the Paris/French companies taking a bit of insurance by backing England?

Ive had my money on london for a while. Got them at odds of 8. Thought it was worth backing just to avoid having London invaded, and to partially pay for the hike in council tax that will result in winning the bid.

I treat anything that can be influenced by judges as a good bet to pick the outsider as u never know wot is happening behind the scenes. The outsider in these events always seem to do quite well. Quite like Mercury prize. Always a fair chance of people wanting to do well off the odds!

God i really hope we dont win it. Athens has been bankrupt by holding the games, can you imagine what would happen here once Gordie got his hands on it?? You'd be paying for it for the next 25 years.

Suggest u read this Milkshock...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_s ... 217987.stm

Wouldnt it be funny if it descended into a Song For Europe, the Father Ted episode? Ireland always used to win Eurovision so they ended up putting appalling entries forward so they wouldnt have to host it cos it always cost the country so much to stage. Boon for tourism of course, but that wasnt factored in.

well i dont know the prices on the day before the cities were chosen, but i certainly don't recall rome being odds on to win the 2004 games. the case of athens may have been on the cards anyway, because they lost to atlanta previously, so it was a kind of make-up for 1996.

i do remember people thinking beijing would win 2000 though - but as i recall people had human rights issues which were voiced before the bid - there was a large anti-China campaign if I recall correctly. no such issues for france this time round.

bejing was a clear cut winner for 2008.

so actually, the only real shock was atlanta beating out athens in 1996.

i also do feel that UK is seen as pro-american which is possibly not going to endear it to certain countries (i.e. most of them!)
