I miss betting on horses...

Postby Venomspread3r » Sun Apr 03, 2022 10:57 am

Hi guys I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on this as I feel I'm in a little bit of a pickle here...

Im fairly new to horse racing only been doing it a few years with low stakes (£2.50 /£5 EW) as I just loved reading the form and finding bigger winners (or places) I don't proclaim to be an expert in the form reading and used Geegeez to help with my selections and I think over a year I was breaking even.

But I soon realised that to be on it you need to be invested in it,
I got myself racing TV as I chose to specialise on Irish Jumpers
Which was also good as there want Irish racing every day ..it also made me feel less overwhelmed knowing I had my niche so to speak.

But I'm not sure what it was ..wether it was the fee for racing TV along with the fee for geegeez (which I personally think is a great tool) along with having a few losing streaks (which is to be expected when lookonj for value bets) I kept getting the feel I was wasting my time YET when I stop I feel I miss it ..I miss looking through the form of course I'm always looking to improve .

I recently started matched betting to cure the itch but even though I know I'm gauranteed profit I don't get that thrill.
I've NEVER placed big stakes and I've NEVER spent money that should be spent on bills etc So why am I feeling this regret when I start betting and then when I stop I miss it?

Has anybody else ever felt this way ?
I'm sorry if it's a bit confusing I just needed to talk to someone about it

" I feel I am wasting my time"

Is that because the profits you hoped to make have not been forthcoming?

Many on this forum have been betting for a long period of time, and their expectations of life-changing profits have been lowered over the years, yet they still take the time to study the form and spend a long time trawling through the cards.

Their betting has improved over time as they have learnt from their mistakes (I include myself in this) but although the aim is to make money they know that there will be lots of backward steps.

If you treat it as a hobby with the added advantage that you can win some money that may help your thinking?

Your expectations may be too high?

You should try and hone your skills over a long period of time, and find the niche that is right for you

Keep records and see which races/horses/prices are giving you the most joy/return.

Read as much as possible and try and see how others are selecting horses and why they are selecting them.

You seem like you have the enthusiasm for racing which is an important factor, as it is much easier to learn to do something you like rather than finding it a chore.

Why don't you ask a question related to horse selection and the members can help with some replies?

No one has all the answers but pooled knowledge can help. :win:
