Welsh Open - £20 Best Tip Comment Prize

Postby Zipster » Sat Mar 03, 2018 10:46 am

Just in case you missed it in this weeks Newsletter, the Welsh Open is well underway at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff and we will be offering a £20 cash prize on this event.

We will be looking for the best comment placed on either of the semi-finals which take place on Saturday (3rd) or the final which takes place on Sunday (4th).

To qualify, the tip with comment analysis must be entered in the tipping competition in the usual way using the 'Make A Tip' menu (link below) -

https://www.olbg.com/members/maketip.php?id=6

The comments team will judge the best tip comment from all available markets on either of the mentioned events and will be looking for possible analysis to include :-

- Player form prior and during the Welsh Open
- Relevant head to head information
- How players cope with best of 11 matches (or best of 17 for the final)
- TV record and experience

Plus any relevant information that you feel is key and can give readers that edge in following your tip and placing a bet.

The comments team will announce the £20 cash prize winner on this forum thread and the cash will be paid directly into their OLBG account.

We intend to run a £20 "best comment" competition on one event each week and to encourage more people to get involved the £20 prize can only be won once by any member in a calendar month.

Good luck !

We would like to thank everyone who got involved over the weekend with the finale of the Welsh Open, the two favourites Hawkins & Higgins advanced into the final with Higgins coming out the winner by a scoreline of 9-7.

The comments which stood out came from Reeder10, Johhny80, Nawoo, Levaan & Ferdinandos but the standout for us was Joannemalone1 who covered all three matches excellently so we have gone with Joanne as this weeks winner, well done Joanne and thank you to everyone who took time to get comments up.

Joannemalone1 (Hawkins - Semi)
“Barry Hawkins has won both previous meetings against Noppon Saengkham 5-0 when they met in the last 128 of the German masters in 2015 and 5-1 in the last 128 of the China open also in 2015. Barry has struggled this season losing in the early round of tournaments but he has more experience than his opponent and that should count here. Noppon rarely gets this far in tournaments but has played well this week beating Judd Trump 4-1 and Kyren Wilson 4-0 and beat Ian Burns 5-3 in the quarter final. Barry beat Martin Gould 4-2 in the last 16 and in the last round he beat Yan Bingtao 5-1 making two 50+ breaks and breaks of 137 and 141 he should have too much for Noppon in this match.”
Joannemalone1 (Hawkins HCP - Semi)
“Barry Hawkins has a 2-0 head-head with Noppon Saengkham they have played eleven frames with Barry winning ten and Noppon winning just one 5-0 and 5-1. Noppon has been the surprise of the tournament beating Ross Muir 4-2, Judd Trump 4-1, Craig Steadman 4-2, Kyren Wilson 4-0 and Ian Burns 5-3 he has made eight 50+ breaks and two century breaks so far in the tournament. Barry has found some form this week after a poor season and has beat Niu Zhuang 4-1, Tom Ford 4-0, Fang Xiongman 4-2, Martin Gould 4-2 and Yan Bingtao 5-1 he had made nine 50+ breaks and two century breaks his experience gives him the edge and should win with a bit to spare.”
Joannemalone1 (Higgins - Semi)
“John Higgins and Gary Wilson have two previous meetings they share the head-head 1-1 and Gary won the last meeting between them 4-3 in the last 32 of the Northern Ireland open last November and John had a 3-1 lead in the match. In the tournament John has beaten Matthew Selt 4-2, Stephen Maguire 4-1 Sam Craigie 4-0, Nigel Bond 4-0 and the inform Ronnie O'Sullivan 5-1 he has scored well with eight 50+ breaks and seven century breaks and Gary has had wins against Sam Baird 4-1, Daniel Wells 4-3, Mark Allen 4-3, John Astley 4-2, and Yu Delu 5-2 and made three century breaks in his last match he is a capable player when he is on his game but this will probably be a step too far.”
Joannemalone1 (Higgins HCP - Semi)
“John Higgins won the first meeting against Gary Wilson 4-2 in the last 64 of a European tour event in 2014 and Gary won their last meeting 4-3 when they met in the Northern Ireland open in November. John is the more experienced of the two players and was impressive beating Ronnie O' Sullivan 5-1 in the quarter final making two 50+ breaks and two century breaks on that form he will be very hard to beat on that form. The highest ranked player Gary has beat so far in the tournament was Mark Allen winning in a deciding frame he is a solid scorer when he gets his opportunities but is likely to struggle with his safety game and can't afford to make many mistakes or John will take full advantage and win comfortably.”
Joannemalone1 (Higgins – Final)
“John Higgins has an 8-7 head-head with Barry Hawkins and John won their last meeting 17-8 in the semi final of last years world championship. John wasn't at his very best in the semi final beating Gary Wilson 6-2 but didn't need to be punishing Gary's mistakes and made breaks of 99 and 106. Barry has had a mixed season and beat Noppon Saengkham 6-4 but struggled to kill off the match after leading 5-2 he will need to be more clinical in this match because John is a very experienced player and has been consistent this season winning the Indian open and got to the semi final of the Shanghai masters, Scottish open and the masters on form John should win this match and Barry didn't seem over confident about his performance in the semi final.”
Joannemalone1 (Higgins HCP – Final)
“John Higgins has an 8-7 head-head with Barry Hawkins and they have played 102 frames with John winning 54 and Barry winning 48 and when the last met John won the world championship semi final 17-8 the only other longer format they played John also won 10-6 in the 2010 world championship. John has recaptured his form over the last few seasons winning tournaments and getting to the latter stages and won the Indian open last September. In this tournament he has beaten Matthew Selt 4-2, Stephen Maguire 4-1, Sam Craigie 4-0, Nigel Bond 4-0, Ronnie O'Sullivan 5-1 and Gary Wilson 6-2. Barry Hawkins is a very capable player when he is on form but this season has been a struggle for him losing to players he would be expected to beat his route to the final has been easier than John's with wins against Niu Zhuang 4-1, Tom Ford 4-0, Fang Xiongman 4-2, Martin Gould 4-2, Yan Bingtao 5-1 and Noppon Saengkham 6-4 he looked vulnerable in the last round and against John he can't show any weakness or this could be a one sided match overall John has been the more consistent of the two and should win.”
