Postby STEVEOCN » Sun Dec 03, 2017 10:45 pm

To all members, readers and posters welcome to the 'Player Of The Week' golf thread.

Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into Week 48 of the competition! Week 47 brought two winners and two places for the POTW thread which was an excellent return. steenie1 and The Rabbit landed winners with Dylan Frittelli and Rickie Fowler. Denden and Shelkero bagged Each Way places with Harold Varner III and Tommy Fleetwood. Two weeks to go, this week and next...Denden is the man to catch at the top! The final week will be double points!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. Joburg Open – European Tour
2. Omega Dubai Ladies Masters – Ladies European Tour (Wednesday Start)
3. MCB Tour Championship – European Senior Tour (Friday Start)
4. Thongchai Jaidee Foundation – Asian Development Tour

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Player: Romain Langasque

Tournament: Joburg Open

Reasons For Support:

Third last week at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open to finish two shots behind the eventual winner Dylan Frittelli, the Frenchman shot rounds of 67 69 67 67 and looked to have a very good ball striking week at The Heritage. Romain is one of the young talents set to break through in 2018 and Langasque can contend once again this week in South Africa. 75/1 early price with bet365 looks set to be snapped up quickly so taking the Frenchman this week at the Randpark Golf Club.

Player : Paul Broadhurst

Event : MCB Tour Championship

Reason for Support : This is the last event on the European Senior Tour which they play in Mauritius which looks a pretty open event. David frost has won in 2012 with other good finishes and is rightly the favourite. I do like the look of Broadhurst who has won his last 2 events in Europe and this Senior open Major winner has the class to grind it out when others have cried enough. His best finish in this was last year when he was placed 2nd to a buoyant Barry lane, I would be happy with a place this week going into The player of the week finale next week. gl all.

Player: In Kyung Kim

Tournament: Omega Dubai Ladies Masters

Reasons For Support:

Odds are nothing special but this is a very moderate event and In Kyung Kim 5/1 is the highest ranked player here and has a decent chance of winning if in good health. She has won three tournaments on the LPGA tour this year including two in the USA and a Major which was the British Open in July. She withdrew from the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship in October due to illness but produced a good performance in her latest event when jt 8th CME Group Tour Championship last month which is a lot stronger than this one. She does not often compete in this event but she did win this tournament in 2009.

Player:Haydn Porteous

Tournament:Joburg Open

Reasons For Support: Haydn might be one of the South African players that could go well this week, the strength of this field is poor and it is often best to side with a home player down here. Haydn finished in a tie for 40th last week at the Mairitius Open but that could and should have been a lot better only for a very poor 75 on the final day. He had played well in the Nedbank earlier and this is a tournament where the two courses might well suit his game. He might well place this week.

Player George Coetzee
Event joburg open
Reason
This event has a very strong home contingent with George being one of those he invariably goes well in this event with many top ten finishes including 7th here last year and a winner outright in 2014 so is one to very much keep the right side on George has come back to decent form at this late stage of the season and has had 4 top tens in his last 10 competitions and 10 top tens this year not long long left to gain a win this year with events running out the African has at least a win in his last 3 seasons and will be looking to keep that trend going here.

Just a heads up on the qbe shootout where Harris English/Matt Kuchar have an outstanding record going for their third win in five years and finishing runner up in the other two at 5/1 they look a fair price in a competition they obviously like and surely will be out to go close yet again

Player: Mikko Korhonen

Tournament: Joburg Open

Reasons For Support:

I really can't understand why Mikko Korhonen is as big a price as he is this week in the Joburg Open. Korhonen missed the Race to Dubai final series but played some good golf throughout 2017. 2nd at the Lyoness Open and 2nd in the Tshwane Open in South Africa, it's his results in South Africa that I really like. 2nd in that Tshwane Open, 7th in the BMW SA Open, 13th in the Africa Open the year before. Korhonen likes the South African courses and the conditions so at a very big price of 140/1 with bet365 I don't see why he can't have a good week at the Joburg Open. Best of luck to all. :D

Player: Clark Dennis
Event: MCB Tour Championship – European Senior Tour
Reason For Support:
Yes, yes---of course I'm tempted to row in again with Dylan Frittelli at Jo'burg. But although I'll do him in the golf comp, it'll start to look like Groundhog Day for me on here if I do. So a shout out instead for Clark Dennis in the Seniors. 2017 was American Clark Dennis’s first year on the European Senior Tour Circuit. Although he has only played six events since August, (13 throughout the year in total) he is top of the ‘Order of Merit’ rankings. That’s not surprising. Those last six tournaments have delivered two wins (the Italian Senior Open and the Dutch Masters) and two T2s in the Travis Perkins Masters and the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

Paul Eales
MCB Tour Championship
50/1 SkyBet
It has been a great year for Southport golf with Tommy Fleetwood winning the Race to Dubai. Matt Baldwin won his tour card via the qualifying route and just had a round of seven under in Joburg. Hopefully Royal Birkdale golfer Paul can gain some inspiration from their efforts and improve on a his past two results at this course, third and eighth places in the two previous renewals. Recent form has been good, Eales was runner up at the Dutch Masters and seventh at the European Masters in his last two appearances in October
