Postby STEVEOCN » Sun Nov 19, 2017 10:19 pm

To all members, readers and posters welcome to the 'Player Of The Week' golf thread.

Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into Week 46 of the competition! Week 45 didn't bring any return so it's as you were as we move into Week 46 and are now only four weeks from the end of the Player of the Week Challenge thread! All to play for at the top!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. UBS Hong Kong Open – European Tour
2. Emirates Australian Open – PGA Tour Australasia
3. Casio World Open – Japan Golf Tour

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Player: Jordan Spieth

Tournament: Emirates Australian Open

Reasons For Support:

The bet of the week has to be Jordan Spieth to defend his title at the Emirates Australian Open. It's the 102nd Open in Australia and Spieth is playing in the Australian Club after he said he had a love affair with the event and Australia from previous appearances. Jason Day hasn't had the best of years, Adam Scott was quiet and the local favourites like Geoff Ogilvy and Matt Jones also haven't had good seasons. Spieth won this twelve months ago in a play-off over Hall and Smith and I am going to have a good bet on Jordan Spieth winning the Emirates Australian Open once again.

Player : Justin Rose

Event : Hong Kong Open

Reason for Support : I thought he was the moral winner last week just made a few mistakes on the back nine( he is human). One of my favourite players who has learned his trade and normally gets it done. He has had 2 wins and a T4th in his last three events not to shabby, with that classic swing and deadly putter he can put last week behind him. Justin won this event in 2015 so that should not phase him. This week I will have a cup of Rosey. gl all

Player : Rafa Cabrera Bello

Event : Hong Kong Open

Reason for Support :

Rafa Cabrera Bello 20/1 can be a frustrating player to back as he does not win that often and he has only won three times on the European tour since he became a professional in 2005. However he has won this year ( Scottish Open ) which must be a boost to his confidence so I am hoping that he can win again this week. He has only performed moderately in his latest two events but they were on long courses and this short par 70 should be more to his liking. He came jt 5th in the HSBC Champions last month which was a good effort and he can play well from tee to green which can be important at this course in Hong Kong which is not an easy one. He came 2nd here last year so he has some decent course form.

Player : Li Haotong

Event : Hong Kong Open

Reason for Support :

4th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa, Li Haotong was 13th last week at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. The Chinese golfer finished with a 64 at the Gary Player Course in Sun City then a pair of 67's at the weekend on the Earth Course in Dubai see another good finish posted. Closer to home, Li Haotong looks the pick of the bunch after the favourite who were all fighting for the Race to Dubai title last week and may start the wind down for the end of year. Haotong has won twice in China and back in Asia he is worth backing in the Hong Kong Open. 40/1 Stan James a cracking price.

Player : Thongchai Jaidee

Event : Hong Kong Open

Reason for Support :

The last ten times that Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand has played in the UBS Hong Kong Open he finished inside the top 20 every time. 14th last year and 13th the year before were two very good results and Jaidee's best results in Hong Kong were 2nd and 3rd some years before so having a bet on him this week to win it outright as he plots his way around and has a very good chance this week I feel. 80/1 is his price.

Player : Dylan Frittelli

Event : Hong Kong Open

Reason for Support :

South African Dylan Frittelli made a huge jump up the rankings of the European Tour last season. He ended 2016 ranked at 128th. When the 'Race to Dubai' came to its close last weekend, his place in the rankings had shot up to 19th. He has had two Top 5 finishes in his last three events. He finished T4 in Dubai last week and T2 in the Turkish Airlines Open at the beginning of November. Admittedly his form can be patchy, but when he's on song he has the ability to tangle with the best. His other highlights this year include winning the Lyoness Open in Austria (his first win on the European Tour) and finishing outright second in the Volvo China Open.

Matthew Fitzpatrick
Hong Kong
10/1 William Hill
It has been a long year and there may be some mental letdown for some of the players who were involved in the Race to Dubai finale, particularly Rose and Fleetwood. A chance is taken on Fitzpatrick to continue a good run of form that has started with a victory at the European Masters in September. Has has seven consecutive top fifteen placed finishes since. Matthew finished in third place at this course on his only previous visit a couple of years ago shooting four rounds in the sixties. Accurate off the tee and with good greens in regulation stats the course should be suitable for another good performance

Player:David Lipsky

Tournament:Hong Kong Open

Reasons For Support: A lot of players at the head of the market could well do with a weak off given their schedule and a player further down might just win this week. David Lipsky is 50/1 and looks a Each Way contender ,he has said in the past that he likes it here and proved that by getting into fifth place last year. He played well last week and had a very good third round there, he has two top 20s in this and did go well in China early in the year .He has a game that suits this course and should go well.

Hideto Tanihara
Tournament Hong Kong Open

Interesting at the price of 100-1 as he has splatterings of form in big events including a fourth in the WGC World Matchplay, where he only lost by one hole to a red hot Dustin Johnson in the semi final. He is consistently in contention on The Asian Tour but was also third in the BMW PGA this year and fifth in last year's Open. The fact this event is in Asia indicates that Each Way top five, the price stands out
