Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into week 27 of the competition! Week 26 was a dry week for us unfortunately but with the a ladies and senior major this week aswell as Scotland and the John Deere we can find some Each Way return ahead of The Open Championship next week!!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open – European Tour
2. John Deere Classic – PGA Tour
3. Italian Challenge Open by Lyoness – Challenge Tour
4. Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank – Web.com Tour
5. U.S. Women’s Open – LPGA Tour
6. WINSTONgolf Senior Open – Senior European Tour (Friday Start)
7. Senior Players Championship – Champions Tour

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Player: Michelle Wie

Tournament: U.S. Women's Open

Reasons For Support:

Third in 2006, Michelle Wie won the 2014 U.S. Women's Open and was 11th the following year when defending her national open. The American can take inspiration from close friend Danielle Kang who won the U.S. Women's PGA Championship recently and with their friendship seemingly helping both ladies produce some fine results and momentum lately, Michelle Wie can step forward and claim a second U.S. Women's Open. Wie's recent good form includes a 20th in that Women's PGA Championship and four top 4 finishes in the previous five starts. 6th in the ANA Inspiration, Wie has been playing well in the 2017 majors and she can claim her second major title this week. bet365 first up with 28/1, any price in or around take mark looks good value.

Player: Ben Martin

Tournament: John Deere Classic

Reasons For Support:

Ben Martin started to play a little better back at the FedEx St Jude Classic where he had four solid rounds to finish 60th. 70-71-70-71 was very steady but he improved at the Quicken Loans National where he finished 5th and that was thanks to a great 65 final round. He started with 64 and 67 for his first two rounds at last week's Greenbrier Classic and his 75-70 weekend let him down but its clear he is playing much better and can continue his progression. At last year's John Deere Classic the american golfer finished second so good vibes and good feelings this week about the course and his game can see Ben do well. 50/1 is a good price :P

Player: Ross Fisher 33/1

Tournament: Scottish Open

Reasons: Ross Fisher has had good form quite consistently through the season, having 6 top 10s in his last 10 tournaments. The seventh position the French Open shows that his immediate form is good and has had some good previous performances in this tournament with six previous top 25s. Being runner up twice in the Alfred Dunhill is more evidence that he is quite adept at Links courses. With the quality of this Open not being quite as high as others, and Fisher looking to be back to his best form, his odds here seem pretty good.

Player: Brian Harman

Tournament: John Deere Classic

Reasons For Support:

Brian Harman 20/1 has obtained three top 10 finishes in his latest six PGA events including a victory at the Wells Fargo Championship in May and a 2nd at the U.S Open. He was only jt 35th in his latest event but may have been suffering from fatigue after his U.S Open performance during the previous week. He can make plenty of birdies ( ranked 22nd in birdie average stats ) and won this event in 2014 so he has shown a liking for this course.

Player : Daniel Berger

Event : John Deere Classic

Reason for support : Our tipping has not been up to par(lol) lately but I am sure it will pick up these important next 2 weeks in the golfing calendar. I am going with Berger this week even though he has not played this event before he has the class to overcome that. He won the St Jude Classic for the second year running which says a lot and he narrowly missed out on the Travelers Championship losing to Spieth's amazing hole out from the greenside bunker in a play-off, he is the favourite and should go well.

Player: Alex Noren

Tournament: Scottish Open

Reasons: Wind and rain and haggis suppers hold no fear for Alex Noren. Nor does links play. The Swede is the defending champion of the Scottish Open, held last year on the links at Castle Stuart. Noren's last event was the French Open where he finished T10 and in May he won the BMW PGA at Wentworth with a score of -11 under par. The bare stats don't show that he was 7 strokes off the lead at Wentworth on the final day, but won the event by shooting a 62 and breaking the course record. In between last year's Scottish Open and Wentworth, he also won the Omega European Masters, the British Masters and the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Noren is currently fourth in the 'Race to Dubai'. As none of the three players in front of him---Fleetwod, Garcia and Rahm---are playing this Event, he has a good chance to close the gap.

Player. Steve Stricker
Event. John Deere Classic
Reason

Steve Stricker has been about for a while now and is one of the most experienced on tour he has been in great form as well latest a 16th in the very tough US Open although this week is a totally different proposition emphasis on high scoring here but he had a good top ten in the Dean and Delluca before that he chose not to come here last year headed to Scotland instead when a fair 21st but won this event 3 times in a row from 2009 to 2011 and knows his way round I think he can go well again in a event that is not the strongest in top names .

Player: Zach Johnson

Tournament: John Deere Classic

Reason: Zach has been up and down this year without a win so far. This is by far his best chance. He has won this previous and altho finished ok last year. Previous to that he was in the top five every year.
He has sensibly taken a couple weeks off before the John Deere. Hoping this would benefit his game as he will be fresh and hopefully practiced for this tournament in mind. Current odds are worth it for me as you know you'll get a run for your money.
