To all members, readers and posters welcome to the 'Player Of The Week' golf thread.

Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into week 26 of the competition! Week 25 seen twfaulkner land a place with David Lingmerth in the Quicken Loans National to keep us ticking over. A couple of good events this week especially the Irish Open with Hideki Matsuyama and Jon Rahm joining the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose in Northern Ireland!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Hosted by the Rory Foundation – European Tour
2. The Greenbrier Classic – PGA Tour
3. Prague Golf Challenge – Challenge Tour
4. LECOM Health Challenge – Web.com Tour
5. Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic – LPGA Tour
6. Ladies European Thailand Championship - Ladies European Tour
7. Shigeo Nagashima Invitational SEGA SAMMY Cup – Japan Golf Tour
8. Swiss Senior Open – European Senior Tour (Friday Start)

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Template below, enjoy this week's golf!

Player: Kevin Kisner

Tournament: The Greenbrier Classic

Reasons For Support:

Kisner has nine top twenty finishes this season so far on the PGA Tour and he won at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational recently. 6th at the Memorial Tournament soon after, Kisner hasn't played since the U.S. Open and returns to the Greenbrier where he lost in a play-off two years ago. 2nd in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 11th in the RBC Heritage and then his win at Colonial and top 10 at the Memorial the tight courses suit Kisner and I think he can go one better than two years ago in the Greenbrier, he is going to be my main bet this week for sure.

Player: David Hearn

Tournament: Greenbrier Classic

Reasons For Support:

2nd at the Greenbrier Classic in 2015 losing out in a sudden death play-off eventually won by Danny Lee, the Canadian is playing some of his best golf right now. 68-64-68-67 were his rounds back in 2015 and coming into this years event he has recently posted top ten finishes at the FedEx St.Jude Classic and Travelers Championship. 17th at the Valspar Championship earlier this year was another good performance and the Greenbrier course will be similar in terms of layout to events like the Travelers and Valspar. Hearn made the cut last week at the Quicken Loans National and after a tough week in Maryland, I can see a return to The Old White TPC in West Viriginia as a positive and David Hearn can have another big week.

**sorry for not participating for a while - work has been stressful - back now! ***

Name : Thorbjorn Olesen (40/1 with Ladbrokes on Monday afternoon)

Tournament DDI Irish Open

Reason :

How good was Thorbjorn last week in R4 at the French Open? That -7 in that final round was exceptional and the lowest round that day. So do I just base it on one round? No, course not. He finished that event in T3rd, and two weeks prior to that he was 4th at The Nordea Masters.

If you are looking for form on Links based course the Thorbjorn is your man. He won The Alfred Dunhill Links in 2015, which put to bed the demon’s of the runners up birth in the event 3 years prior in 2012.

His iron game when on song is great, and with this smaller PAR 72 course should be bang in the money again.
Cheers

Player. Andy Sullivan
Event Dubai Duty Free Irish Open
Reason

Andy took some time out after the masters but seems to be getting back in the swing of things now with a good finish last time in the Open De France finishing a decent 13th not so good in the bmw before that but was 8th in the Nordea masters and some good top 20 finishes earlier this year hopefully his problems are behind him now and he can make a good fist of this event.

Player: Webb Simpson

Tournament: Greenbrier Classic

Reasons For Support:

Webb Simpson 25/1 has won four events on this tour including the US Open in 2012 so he is capable of playing very good golf and he has produced some good performances this year as he was beaten in a Play Off at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February and came 5th at the Dean & Deluca Invitational at the end of May. Finished jt 8th in his latest event at the end of June so he has recent good form and played well at this course in 2014 when he came 3rd.

Event - Greenbrier Classic
Player - Kevin Streelman

Three top three finishes in 2013 and 2014 including a victory in each year saw Streelman reach a World Ranking of 36th, but two months ago he had plummeted to 150th. However he has now managed four top twenty finishes in a row, so in a below average field, to which Patrick Reed, who has not won since last week's Barclays, is the top ranked player, represents value at the price

Player - Lee Westwood 40/1

Tournament - Dubai Duty Free Irish

Reasons - Westwood has been playing solid golf for a while now and I feel it is a matter of time before it all comes together and he wins a tournament. 4 top 20s in his last 6 is good form and the two he finished outside the top 20 were in the bigger tournaments (US Open and Players). He has shown in the past he can handle links golf courses with previous good performances in the Alfred Dunhill specifically. This is purely opinion but watching him being interviewed during the French Open Lee appeared calm, relaxed, and confident so that is definitely swaying me as well.

Player: Bill Haas

Tournament: Greenbrier Classic

Reasons For Support:

Previous course form at the Greenbrier has to be treated with caution this week as the course was flooded last year which caused the event to be cancelled and as a result has undergone an extensive makeover. Probably sub standard field here too with the British Open on the horizon making it a bit tricky this week but I've sided with BILL HAAS who despite not registering a win in 2017 he has had a solid season with three top tens, eleven top 25's and just three missed cuts from seventeen events played. Most notable performances have been a third place at the WGC event in March which proceeded the three back to back missed cuts during April into May but has since rediscovered the consistency with a T12 at the Dean & Deluca, T25 at the Memorial, an excellent share of fifth in the US Open at Erin Hills and most recently last week a T13 at the Quicken Loans National. Despite the new look the course may have this week, Bill has played here prior five times making four cuts with two top tens (T9 in 2013) and a best placed runner up spot in 2011.

Player. Paul Dunne
Event Dubai Duty Free Irish Open
Reason Gone for a bit of Irish this week and Paul dunno who knows this course well. Known mainly for leading the British open as an ameteur in 2015 his found life difficult since turning pro but this season after retaining his card has seen good improvement and has a sixth place finish and a loss in a playoff to his credit. His tied 13 th at the French open last week suggests he's in good form arriving here and I think at 50/1 is a great bet for a place at least

Player : Brooke Henderson

Event : Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic

Reason for support : Brooke has come back to form with a vengeance winning the Meijer LPGA classic, then winning the CVS health charity classic the next 2 days and then coming 2nd in the KPMG Womens PGA Champioship last week to a inspired Danielle Kang. If she can keep up that form come Sunday this classy player would have lead them a merry dance. gl all
