To all members, readers and posters welcome to the 'Player Of The Week' golf thread.

Image

Welcome to the 2017 Player of the Week thread, we are now into week 24 of the competition! Week 23 seen The Rabbit have Rickie Fowler who placed top 7 in the U.S. Open while steenie1 had Lexi Thompson in the Meijer LPGA Classic, the American finishing tied 2nd. Petethebet picked Lorenzo Gagli in the Hauts de France Golf Open, the Italian finished tied 2nd aswell, only a shot behind. What a week it could have been but we move on with some strong field events this week!

Who will be the player/tipster of the week this week?

Tournaments taking place -

1. BMW International Open – European Tour
2. Travelers Championship – PGA Tour
3. European Tour Properties Senior Classic – European Senior Tour (Wednesday Start)
4. Lincoln Land Charity Championship – Web.com Tour
5. Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G – LPGA Tour (Friday Start)
6. American Family Insurance Championship – Champions Tour (Friday Start)

Readers want to see your reasoning and discussion as to why they should back a particular player in the above events so please make any posts interesting and informative. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, the more points and approaches we have in this thread can only help as we decide on our selections ahead of round one. We understand your selection may not be for a betting purpose like others but more for an OLBG selection or simply for your Fantasy Golf team so all input and opinions can only help this thread grow.

It would be great if in time we developed into a group of golf tipsters and experts each adding their ONE 'Player of the Week' accompanied by 100-125 words. Max 1 event - 1 entry only.

PLEASE NOTE - Picking the same golfer as a fellow tipster is allowed but we encourage unique picks from everyone so there is more information in our thread for all to read.
Important: All POTW comments must be original and not lifted from any source. Of course POTW players need to do research but the comments must be in your original words.

Player: Pablo Larrazabal

Tournament: BMW International Open

Reasons For Support:

Pablo has already sent out the social media message ahead of the BMW International Open this week in Germany. Twice a winner at the course, it's one of his favourite events of the year on his most favourite course on the European Tour. Larrazabal stated he has been waiting for this week and recent form suggests he is arriving playing some great golf, perhaps just missing that feel good factor on any given week. Tied 24th at Wentworth where he never really got going, Pablo was 3rd in the Volvo China Open, 11th in the Shenzhen International and 13th in the Trophee Hassan II. Tee to green Larrazabal is looking sharp and a return to his favourite course can see him piece everything together and contend for a third BMW International Open. Pablo Larrazabal has won three of his four European Tour titles in June and he can strike again this week for his fifth.

Player: Bubba Watson

Tournament: Travelers Championship

Reasons For Support:

5th in the Memorial Tournament and 6th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans was much better from Bubba Watson and the American is a former winner of the Travelers Championship. Bubba won the title in 2010 and again in 2015 and either side of those two victories he has been 6th, 14th, 2nd and 4th. He loves the event and the course and after having the weekend off at the US Open I think he might go really well this week in the Travelers event. Horses for courses as they say and Bubba Watson will be my main bet for this tournament. :)

Player: Minjee Lee

Tournament: Walmart NW Arkansas Championship

Reasons For Support:

Minjee Lee 14/1 has won three times on the LPGA tour and has been showing some quite good form recently with four top ten finishes in her latest six events including a jt 2nd in the LPGA Volvik Championship at the end of last month. She enjoys playing golf in hot conditions and on courses with large greens so conditions should suit her here this week and she has some useful course form as she was jt 6th in 2015 and jt 8th in 2016.

Player: Tommy Fleetwood

Tournament: BMW International Open

Reasons For Support:

I'm going to get in here first with Tommy Fleetwood in the hope he can carry his brilliant form from the US Open to Munich. He matched winner Koopka score for score on the first three days and only for no luck around the greens he would have been a lot closer. The BMW suits the long hitters yet again with four par 5's and some drivable par 4's and has far more generous fairways then the Open did. If Tommy is anywhere close to hitting the ball the way he did last week he should gain his 5th tour win come Sunday.

Player: Brian Harman

Event: Travelers Championship

Reason; Second in the US open would represent the best result of Brian Harman career so far but even before that he'd shown a massive improvement in form during 2017 and had risen up the world ranking from 136 to 51st and he as won the Wells Fargo Championship this year, his form can be a bit hit and miss as he as missed the cut in 4 tournaments this year but on his nest form clearly looks a good price and should be full of confidence after the Us open

Kevin Tway
Travelers Championship

Tway is ranked 185th in the World but his performance in the last few months suggest he is worth an Each Way investment. He finished 3rd at The Valero Open, followed that with an outstanding 3rd in the Zurich Classic with partner Kelly Craft, the World Ranked 178th, which considering the field assembled for this pairs tournament, their finishing position was exceptional, and included a closing 61. He was 5th at The Wells Fargo and last month his 18th followed a previous week's 20th at The Byron Nelson. This now means six top 32 finishes in his last seven events and as he was 26th in this in 2014 so he appeals at a the price of 100-1

Player:Marc Leishman

Tournament: Travellers championship

Reasons For Support:Marc should go well here this week as he should be full of confidence given his fine US open effort last week.He has played well here numerous times in the past in what looks a course that seems to suit him well.I just can not get away from his form and he was involved for three rounds last week before eventually fading. He is back in a tournament he has had plenty of success at in the past including a win here in 2012 and I just can not ignore him this week.I have taken the 33/1 available.

Player: Justin Thomas 14/1

Tournament: Travelers Championship

Reason for Support: When Justin Thomas is in form he is able to score ridiculously low rounds, the 63 at the US Open is a prime example but there have also been 64's at the Zurich and in the Sony Open scored a 59 and 64, it is therefore not surprising that he is leading the tours on both birdies and eagles average. Additionally his recent form has been good with three top 10s in the last 4 tournaments. He has shown he can get low rounds in this tournament as last year scored a 62 when finishing third place, having every round under 70, additionally he was coming into the tournament last year in worse form than today. This is certainly a course that can reward good play with plenty of birdies so Thomas is the pick for me.

Player : Scott McCarron

Event : American Family Insurance Championship

Reason for support : Scott is second in the Schwab cup money list behind Bernhard Langer and has been very consistent this year with top 5 placing in his last 3 events. He has won already this year winning The Allianz championship back in mid-February and he is surely due another win now. Plus he does not have to worry about Bernhard Langer who is not playing this week, Stricker will be favourite but after his effort in the U.S.open last week he might not do the job here.

Jordan Niebrugge
Lincoln Land
50/1 bet365
A tough week but a chance is taken on Jordan in the hope that he can bring last weeks excellent form at the US Open to the Web Com Tour. He was just one over par after four solid rounds at Erin Hills, with a highest score of just seventy three. The American may be best remembered for a tie for sixth in the Open two years ago. Recent form in this sphere has been good, he was runner up earlier month in a tour event.
