ha, looks like hes tipping himself, fair play. Perhaps there will be some good tips you can share when you get to the event Matt?! BTW, what are the rules for pro darts players. I guess you are allowed to bet on yourself winning?

"Sorry guys i cant help it i have to back myself in this one.

I am coming into the event playing well though. Now up to rank 125 in the world and picking up some good wins very early into my life on the pdc.

I have beaten 5 notable players already this year in the form of Co Stompe (6-1) Mike van Gerwen (6-5) Andy Smith (6-5) John Magowen (6-3) and Tony Eccles (6-5)

I have raised the practice going into this event and that was paying off on the pro tour in crawley at the weekend with a narrow defeat to the semi finalist of the event scott rand and been close for the 9 dart leg.

Practing for this event with Kevin Painter and another fellow pdc member and my pairs partner prakash jiwa.

Hard first round draw but they all are and i feel i have a good chance of getting through day one. One day at a time here for me.

Ones to watch for

Scott Rand
John Part
Antino Alcinas
Steve Brown

Good luck all :) "

matt seems to like his final leg deciders. do u win more than u lose in this scenario? i like a player good under pressure.

if someone can post up when matt is playing so we can all watch and cheer him on.

Hey guys.

first i would like to say how glad and greatful i am to OLBG for helping me out over the next 12 months. I have been looking forward to the days i could get onto the PDC and as said above i had to sell my playstation among other things on ebay to enter my first few events.

Not an ideal world i was in having to win games to stay alive on the PDC but with the £1,000 ive won this year already through beating. Co Stompe, Andy Smith, Mike Van gerwen, John Magowen and Tony Eccles. Mixed with the help from OLBG things are looking good. Im in the uk open next week and as well as the pro tour events in barnsley and Holland to follow this one.

To answer a few questions above

We are not allowed to bet on these events outself but i can sure give you my views on what i think will happen.
The comment about going to 5 legs i can say is not by choice lol its a lot of pressure and am coming out on top of these at the moment. The most gutting one though was agaisnt mark webster as i did have a 4-1 and 5-2 lead in that game.

In terms of betting for this event its a bit of a minefield and the draw can realy play a huge factor in this event. Theres lots of players that can not be ruled out when it comes to the outright and SkyBet are offering a semi final Each Way odds event so might be worth going with them for this one. Ill use the odds from Stan James as they are the only ones so far to have match by match betting and post my views shortley

Draw, schedule of play etc

here

best site for keeping up with news here

http://www.pdc.tv/page/UKOpen/0,,10180,00.html

I see there are no odds for Matthews first round as he plays the winner of Thompson/Heydon as they play a preliminary round

The very best of luck to you Matt :hope: :win:

I will be eagerly following your progress in next weeks U.K Open and hopefully you can get a few wins under your belt at the very least.
I presume a couple of wins will carry a lot of ranking points which would mean more starts in the bigger tournaments :?

Top marks for OLBG as well :win:

Hope you have a great tournament next week :hope: :win:

Magnus Caris to beat Kevin Mcdine (5/4)

Magnus has many years of experiance and this goes back to his semi final world championship run back in the early 90s. His recent apperance in the world championship made him go to wigan to try for a pdc pro tour card in which he got. Has been playing very well on the floor beating some great players and full of confidance. He is the man everyone wants to aviod at the moment and over a short format wont suit mcdine. Possible shock

Shaun Giffiths to beat John Magown (4/6)

From playing john myself just this weekend i notice he hits a lot of 100s but is not as hot on the 140+ shots. Shaun is a great young talent who made this years lakeside and although didnt play great there is playing well on the pdc pro tour at the moment. Starts his games well and should be strong enough on the scoring to buy himself some time at the doubles. Shaun has got the backing of sky sports commentator john gwyene who has tipped him to be the next big thing.

antino alcinas to beat beat mareno michels (8/13)

Another in form player here, made his debut at the world cup and has gone on from there. Is impressing on the pro tour and another one the big boys are hoping to aviod from the unseeded play pot. Has taken out soem big names already this year and is a outsider for this event. Mareno is not on his best form. has had a good weekend or two along the way but is not up to the standard of his dutch travelling partners. Was on the board next to me at the weekend and from what i seen this looks to be the best 8/13 shout of the first round matches.

justin pipe to beat gary welding (8/13)

gary wont like how slow justin plays. gary is not the fastest player in the world but justin is so hard to play because of this very slow style he has. Justin is playing well and another good weekend at crawley keeps him in the running for the world matchplay. Short format will help justin more than gary and gary is here on the back of 1 days results that saved him after 7 first round defeats. Justin pipe to win this one.

others to wacth for

Robbie Green
Peter hudson
mensur suljuovic
scott rand

i can also confirm i was interveiwed by sky sports news yesterday during a practice session with Kevin Painter. This will be aired either 31st may or 1st june. I will be seen wearing the olbg logo :)

My first game is thursday june 2nd agaisnt either nigel heydon or chris thompson. neither draw is ideal but both are winable games. thanks for the support and hope to do the site proud
