Re: How important is the jockey in your selection process?

@pompeyjim :

I think Piggott, Eddery et al would have seemed less invincible if they were riding through the modern racing calendar

Re: How important is the jockey in your selection process?

The much maligned Spencer is one I definitely avoid - he clearly has talent , but for whatever reason manages to enrage punters up and down the country - mainly in your day to day average races. The most criticism he receives (and rightly so imo) is holding horses up too long and surging too late. ...

Re: How important is the jockey in your selection process?

The jockey is almost vital in my selection process for my National Hunt selections, less important but still well considered for the flat. Under each code, rarely will I select a horse ridden by a jockey who has a poor record at the course in question. ( 0 wins from 5 rides isn't poor but 1 from 28 ...

Re: Horse Racing Discussion and Selections - Saturday 16th September 2017

I cannot get my head around the price of Stradivarius. 7-1 ? He should be no bigger than 9-2. The form of his Queens Vase win is very strong, with four of the next five home all winning since, inc Time To Study and Desert Skyline. Only Capri has " sexier " form and I think Strad outstays him if this...

Well done Pieros. Well backed, too.

I didn't notice Fran Berry's poor strike rate for trainer and at Sandown. Seemed to unbalance the horse up the straight and I was really surprised he made the running as Zajeer was held up last time and finished strongly.

Re: Horse Racing Discussion and Selections - Friday, 15 September 2017

Apologies, Pieros, but I hope you're wrong about the 2.35 at Sandown as I'm quite sweet on Zajeer, even at odds under 2-1. Ran a race of real promise last time out and the fairly quick reappearance is encouraging ( connections willing and eager to crack on with his career with big entries on the hor...

Re: Is the writing on the wall for OLBG....???

@Jaydubs - I received a few pms about my posting methods ( most from one mod in particular) and thought their reaction was OTT. I tend to think that, usually, my posts are considered, which is why I was honoured with being offered the chance to write blogs on OLBG. Threads locked for apparent duplic...

Re: Horse Racing Discussion Wednesday 13th September

4.05 Listowel - The Kerry National Viva Steve won first time out last season at Ayr on soft ground. Listowel is a similar course to Ayr, ground conditions should be fine and he's won first time out after a break the previous two seasons. This might be a prep but the prize money and horse profile sug...

Re: Horse Racing Discussion Wednesday 13th September

As mentioned in the ante post thread and confirmed by Doncaster's clerk of the course, there is a strong wind blowing down the straight, right into the horses faces. Ground is drying due to such conditions. I'm having a look for prominent racers which prefer good to soft. If I find anything, I'll po...

Re: St Leger Festival at Doncaster - 13 to 16 September 2017 - Ante Post Selections and Discussions

Yes, Rob. The wind, the soft conditions and the weak undercard feel to the racing at Doncaster tomorrow means I'll probably take a watching brief for the opening couple of races. Thursday and Friday have tended to be my best days at the meeting and I love the Doncaster Cup. Always remember Richard Q...

Re: Is the writing on the wall for OLBG....???

Cheers, Shark. Might I suggest the official twitter account be more proactive for the forum ? Lots of footy banter and app related tweets but the forum was stronger when it was promoted by the twitter account. I think there was also too much promoting of blogs in certain discussion threads. From my ...

Re: St Leger Festival at Doncaster - 13 to 16 September 2017 - Ante Post Selections and Discussions

Very strong winds near Doncaster tomorrow, should be a headwind and might be a negative for front runners
