March Trainers (NH)

March, the best month of the year for most NH fans and one of the best months of the year in terms on blog results last year with over +£100 LSP from the NH side of the blog, we do need a repeat of that however, a disjointed February has put us benind the 8 ball in terms of profits so here's to a good Cheltenham and beyond.

NH Trainers

We have loads to go at this month, I'll start with the trainers with the most likely Cheltenham runners, it's all pretty obvious stuff but these guys show a profit year in, year out.

GORDON ELLIOTT (ALL)

Needs little introduction, provided +£60 LSP last March with his 8 festival winners, interestingly 7 of those winners were backed at 6/1+, he'll have 30+ runners so we'll need at least one big priced winner but with so many Handicap entries that's likely.

  • 2016     3/20     15%      +£1.75
  • 2017     6/29     21%     +£44.50
  • 2018     8/32     25%     +£51.73

The figures speak for themselves, it will be hard to emulate last year but if he has 5 winners I'm fairly confident we'll show a profit.

PAUL NICHOLLS (ALL)

Looks to have a bit more quality in his Cheltenham string than the last couple of years, landed a couple of big priced winners at the festival last year (25's and 16's).

  • 2015     17/68     25%     +£29.50
  • 2016     11/75     15%     +£10.60
  • 2017     15/73     21%     +£12.52
  • 2018     10/58     17%     +£13.31

Really solid stuff and we won't just be relying on Cheltenham for winners, he'll have plenty throughout the month.

WILLIE MULLINS (ALL)

Again it's nothing mind blowing here, the opposite to Nicholls in that this will probably be his weakest Cheltenham string in terms of big race favorites but I have a bit of a feeling he might have a couple flying under the radar.

  • 2015     6/56     16%     +£2.09
  • 2016     7/62     11%     (£42.86)
  • 2017     6/46     13%     +£10.63
  • 2018     7/62     11%     +£12.40

Not as good as the other two in terms of strike rate but if he gets winners this year they will be bigger prices.

Right well thats Cheltenham sorted now for the rest of the month.

HARRY FRY (ALL)

Dorset trainer who I think is making his first appearance this season, gave +£12 LSP last March.

  • 2015     3/19     16%     (£3.28)
  • 2016     9/36     25%    +£5.54
  • 2017     11/35   31%    +£20.50
  • 2018     8/29     28%    +£5.43

Impressive strike rate and we more than doubled the profits last year taking early prices, take note of his bumper horses, he's 10/16 and +£30.83 over the last two seasons.

IAN WILLIAMS (ALL)

Worcs trainer who gave us very similar results to Fry last year so we have to include again.

  • 2015     5/27     19%      +£21.00
  • 2016     7/34     21%      +£ 1.28
  • 2017     7/24     29%      +£19.25
  • 2018     4/15     27%      +£ 5.70

Not quite the amount of winners as Fry but again we more than doubled the profits taking the early bird prices.

TOM LACEY (ALL)

Ledbury trainer who is becoming a bit of a blog regular, comes into the month in flying form with a 35% strike rate in February.

  • 2016      2/7     29%     +£3.75
  • 2017      2/14   14%     +£7.50
  • 2018     10/16  63%     +£25.32

Amazing stuff last year and at least a LSP the previous two years so little risk involved.

STUART EDMUNDS (ALL)

Another trainer who comes into the month in good form, he's had a LSP in each of the last 3 months and is 33% this calendar year.

  • 2016     3/11     27%     +£5.00
  • 2017     2/11     18%     +£35.50
  • 2018     4/15     27%     +£3.63

Solid stuff and another who won't have loads of runners which is good considering the amount of trainers we are following this month.

HENRY OLIVER (HURDLERS)

I think this guy is a blog virgin, can't remember him appearing before.  He's 25% with his hurdlers December - February.

  • 2015     2/7     27%     +£9.00
  • 2016     2/18   11%      (£3.78)
  • 2017     3/13   23%     +£5.50
  • 2018     3/6     50%     +£7.18

Has had just 1 non hurdle winner in March over the past 4 years.  Had a hurdle winner yesterday though.

IAN JARDINE (HURDLERS)

Scottish trainer who provided us with a small profit last year.

  • 2016     4/10     40%     +£0.51
  • 2017     4/9       44%     +£16.75
  • 2018     2/9       22%     +£3.44

Cracking strike rate that tailed off a little last year but has had a fantastic February (40% with hurdlers) and comes into the month with form figures reading 21211.

JENNIE CANDLISH (ALL)

Another back from last season due to her +£10.83 LSP, we had her non Bumpers last year but with only 3 runners over 4 year we might as well have them all.

  • 2015     5/19     26%     +£24.88
  • 2016     5/17     29%      (£0.31)
  • 2017     5/14     36%     +£14.50
  • 2018     4/15     27%     +£ 3.63

Really strong figures and we almost trebled the profits last year from just 4 winners so get on early.

MICHAEL SCUDAMORE (ALL)

It's a long time since this guy appeared on the blog, H'fords trainer from good stock, comes into the month on the back of a decent February.

  • 2015     2/5     40%     +£14.10
  • 2016     1/12     8%      (£9.63)
  • 2017     5/17   29%     +£5.18
  • 2018     4/17   24%     +£0.83

One bad year in 2016 but a repeat of any of the others will do us fine.

MATT SHEPPARD (CHASE)

From the same neck of the woods as Scudamore, back from last year with his Chasers.

  • 2012     2/2     100%     +£7.00
  • 2013     1/3      33%     +£3.50
  • 2014     1/3      33%     +£3.00
  • 2015     2/6      33%     +£0.50
  • 2016     1/4      25%      (£1.25)
  • 2017     1/2      50%     +£3.00
  • 2018     2/5      40%     +£4.41

I don't usually show so many years figures as I feel it's a little irrelavant but the small amount of runners combined with so consistancy year in year out is astonishing.

STUART COULTARD (ALL)

Another Scottish trainer and another back from  a winning 2018, along with Jardine will give plenty of interest north of the border.

  • 2015     2/15     13%     +£16.00
  • 2016     5/16     31%     +£29.00
  • 2017     5/15     33%     +£21.50
  • 2018     2/14     14%      (£2.00)

Winners at 14's and 11/2 provided a profit last year and with the prospect of previous results repeating a must for inclusion.

Plenty to go at this month and we could have included more Chris Gordon was outstanding in 2016 and 17 but disappointing last year, it would be no surprise to see him go well again, it may also prudent to keep an eye on the likes of Nicky Richards, Charlie Mann and Neil King who just failed to make the list.

As always please leave comments below, have a great Cheltenham.
