The Unibet Greatwood Hurdle is the highlight of the last day of the Cheltenham November meeting, its a Grade 3 Handicap Hurdle run over 2 miles and 87 yards and is run on the old course.

24 runners is the maximum allowed to run in the race and we have 23 declared at the 5 day stage, so they will all run if entered by connections

The trends i have looked at are Age, Weight, Official Rating, Recent Runs, Year Runs, Year Wins, Distance & Grade.

Unibet Greatwood Hurdle

  • Age

  • 8 of the last 10 winners were aged 4 or 5

  • Weight

  • 8 of the last 10 winners carried 10-10 or more

  • Official Rating

  • All of the last 10 winners were rated 151 or lower

  • Recent Runs

  • 7 of the last 10 winners finished in the first 4 in 1 of their last 2 starts

  • Year Runs

  • 8 of the last 10 winners had 3 - 5 runs that year

  • Year Wins

  • 7 of the last 10 winners won that year

  • Grade

  • 8 of the last 10 winners had previously run in a Grade 1

At present there are 23 horses declared for the race at the early stage, first i have looked at the Age trend, we lose 11, leaving 12.

I will leave the weight trend until the final declaration stage, so next is the official rating trend, and we lose 1 here leaving 11.

Recent Runs is next, and we don't lose any.

Year Runs is next, and we lose 8, leaving just 3.

Year Wins is next up, and we lose none.

The last trend to look at for now is the Grade trend, and we lose 2, leaving just 1

The 1 horse left is Elgin but he will fail the weight trend as it stands now, unless the top weight doesn't run

If we end up with no qualifiers passing all of the trends, then i will revert to a scoring plan and use that to find selections.
