Crystal Palace V Manchester United - FA CUP FINAL!
Hi everyone and welcome to my blog, here I will give you a bit of an overview of the match, some stats that might prove a bit useful when the two teams meet, some team news and so on. If there is anything you'd like to see in the blog that is not here, please leave me a comment and I will try to include it below.
I make no apologies this will a CPFC orientated blog, but I will try to put some perspective on it…..
The last time Palace made it to Wembley in 1990 I was 8 and to be honest my memory is sketchy and if you'd said to me 6 years ago that at the point of almost extinction we'd be 2 years in the Premier League and potentially in Europe if we do win, I would have snapped your hand off.
There is one thing I do want to get off my chest though…. How on earth can the FA justify giving almost 30,000 seats away as corporate tickets, I get the need for the some but thats more than the 28,000 each team gets.
Some History / Match Stats
Crystal Palace Last Match - Southampton (away)
Saturday 21st May
Wembley , Kickoff 5:30
CPFC with two games to go in the league have only won 1 in 19 league games.
Man Utd have beaten : Sheff U, Derby, Shrewbury, West Ham and Everton
CPFC have beaten : Southampton, Stoke, Spurs, Reading and Watford.
Head 2 Head (34 Meetings) : Man Utd (21) / Draw (7) / CPFC (6)
Man Utd have won 5 of the last 7 meetings
4 of those 5 wins MUFC won to nil.
The other results were 1 draw and 1 win
Neither side have had a red card in the competition so far.
: I wouldnt read too much into this we made some changes to the side with a number of players rested. Ok, a gubbing is the last thing we needed but I am not too worried.
Manchester Uniteds last match (yet to be played - due to postponement last week)
Early reports are around the fitness of Wilfred Zaha, who is potentially injured for the rest of the league season. That said a break wont do him any harm, he has been out best player and looked a little burnt out in the last couple of weeks.
I will keep dropping in here updates as the weeks go by.
UPDATED 14/5 - We have 3 injury issues as I write Connor Wickham, Wifred Zaha and Joe Ledley with the latter the biggest doubt and very unlikely to play.
UPDATE 20/5 - we have been fortunate in the fact Connor and Wilf have come through the last week which is huge relief. Sadly I can confirm Joe Ledley will miss the tie and his attention turns to being fit for the Euro's.
Not yet got my injury update, however I will put one up after Man U have played their postponed game on Tuesday of this week. I can confirm though Marouane Fellani is out suspended which is as bad a news for MUFC as it is good for CPFC who struggle against height.
UPDATE 20/05 - I got it wrong Fellani is not suspended (bugger!), and United can now add fit-again trio Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo and Morgan Schneiderlin as well as Marouane Fellaini, Fellaini is back in contention after a three-game suspension, putting Ander Herrera's place at risk.
The Match As i See it.
Heart clearly says CPFC, but I cannot ignore the recent results between the two sides, but CPFC will be able to rest players. Palace have nothing to lose, the bookies have them at just short of 5/1 in the market. In the year of the underdog (Leicester) that is big. My gut says a draw at 90mins…. I will let you decide where it goes from there,
The other best I will look at are :
Cards : - No Red Card
Neither side has had a red card in their respective runs to the final and I get the feeling the ref wont want to be the centre of attention. I do however like the yellow card markets….
Cards : - over 3.5 yellow cards @4/6
Palace I dont imagine will have too much posession. We'll sit back and invite MUFC on to us. That will ultimately end up with the fullbacks, defensive midfield giving away plenty of fouls, and I think CPFC will end up with 4 cards at least add to that United with Blind and Fellani this looks a market to play in.
This is nothing more than a gut feel for me, I have been impressed with both Martial (5/1) and Rashford (5/1), their quick feet and pace could be what is our undoing. They are probably worth looking at the FGS and ATGS market. I do think Dann (33/1 FGS - 14's anytime!) is worth a look for us , we'll look to use set pieces to our advantage (height).
Goals : Under 2.5 @8/13
I am going 1-1 for the score after 90 minutes, I think CPFC will set up to be a little bit deep so I dont see them scoring many, we'll look to the counter attacking pace of Wilf and Yannick and Connor Wickham up top. We'll look to snuff Man Utd out so will probably be a low scoring affair.
Correct Score 1-1 @ 6/1
I am going for 1-1 after 90 minutes, my head says MUFC might just nick it in ET (9/1)and potentially has more on the bench than we do…..
One thing I have spotted though is on Bet365 is Man Utd to win to nil at 15/8 (despite my comments about 1-1) that is big looking at 4 of the 5 wins were to nil….
