Wimbledon with OLBG Blogger undertherobe
OLBG blogger and all round good guy undertherobe was at Wimbledon this year and sent in his take on the Worlds greatest Tennis Tournament.
Getting to Wimbledon from Central London is as straight forward as a tube journey can be. A Northern Line train from London Euston to Victoria followed by the District Line to Southfields will bring you as close to the grounds as possible on the tube. From there, it is approximately a 15 minute walk although shared taxis are available (this doesn’t necessarily cut the journey time down due to the volume of traffic heading towards Wimbledon)
Like most sporting venues, food and drink isn’t all that cheap with a small pizza or southern fried chicken & chips coming in at £8. However, you are allowed to take in your own food & drink although there is a limit on the amount of alcohol allowed whilst a one bag per person policy is in operation and the bag comes with a size limit. The Wimbledon staple of strawberries & cream is reasonably priced at £2.50 whilst water fountains are located all around the grounds which comes in handy on a hot day. Help!:
The One A Day Competition
needs your help, we are looking for volunteers who can spare some time to help out organisers Pint Size and Hogsback.
Tickets for Centre, no.1 & no.2 court are all reserved whilst part of court no.3 is also reserved. If you have no ticket for these courts then you’ll have a ground pass and that allows you into the unreserved section of Court no.3 as well as courts 4-19. At the top of Henman Hill is the resale booth where reserved tickets for the show courts go on sale between 3 & 5 pm as those leaving the grounds early are politely requested to hand in their tickets so they can be resold for Charity. Also at the top of Henman Hill is possibly one of the best vantage points of any court as you look over the balcony for a bird’s eye view of Court 18. This also gives you a fantastic view of the adjacent court 19 allowing you to take in two matches simultaneously.
I’ve been lucky enough to attend Wimbledon on a number of occasions through the years and it’s never failed to disappoint. Even when I had the entire day’s play washed out through rain, I found enough to keep me entertained with the Wimbledon museum, shop and thousands of like minded tennis fans to keep me occupied. If you’re a fan of tennis then Wimbledon is a must see event and the ballot for 2016 tickets is open from August 1st to December 15th.
