My main betting focus is golf and trying to pick the winner each week. My blog now tracks my results and to date has been far more successful that thought. I started betting on the golf when I as part of a little business idea I had I thought a golf betting blog would be fun so started tracking my tips & putting them on here to see how it went. A good start with an 80-1 & 55-1 winner in the first two weeks, although that was using the housewife's National selection method, they had nice names. Slowly honing my technique to more recognised techniques, course form, current form etc. After a few months I was doing quite well so started to put my hard earned cash down. I play a little myself, but off a 40 handicap, yes I know the limit is 28 but 40 sums up how over par I am. However I am hoping to get that down to below 20 this year. I do also bet on the horses, but that is generally only following tips on here. As most people looking for those profitable tipsters & systems. Have dabbled in the occasional football bets bet not regularly. Despite being just 5ft 7 (on a good day) I play in goal for Sinjuns Grammarians (4th XI!!) every saturday in the Amateur Football Combination, the largest amateur league in Europe. My keeping style is probably a bit like David James can be brilliant but prone to the odd very stupid mistake. My first betting experiences were on the National in the 80's, Grittar I think was one of the first horses I backed. As an accountant I guess I'm used to dealing with numbers and that is why I enjoy the betting side of sport as well as playing & watching. Enjoy & happy tipping Jimmy

Another Trip to the Champions League

Jul 13th, 2015 at 13:55 Other Football 0 comments

Champions League 15/16 1st Qualifying Round - A Travel Blog Another event I have planned later this year means a trip to one of the more exotic of the UEFA members was out of the question. However the inclusion of the Europa League winner into the Champions League meant that the 1st Qualifying Round was to be 8 teams rather than the 6 last year. That brought Northern Irish …

A Trip to the Champions League 1st Qualifying Round

Jul 7th, 2014 at 09:46 Other Football 0 comments

Champions League 1st Qualifying Round - A Travel Blog So while everyone's focus is on Brazil, and the World Cup, the minnows of Europe get the 2014/15 Champions League underway. Following on from my successful trip last year to the Faroes, I've gone again to watch the first qualifying round of the Champions League. Hopefully there's a snippet or two of info in the match review to help …

A Travel Blog To The Champions League First Qualifying Round Part 2

Jul 23rd, 2013 at 13:39 Other Football 0 comments

Part 2 - Getting home & the Aftermath of the Game The Fun Begins Now one thing we couldn't do at the ground was grab a beer, although you can bring it in it would seem. So after a quick chat with our friendly Swedish family we headed back to the Irish bar only to find on the table next to us was a choir who had just performed at the …

Unfortunately this has not been forthcoming, however I have posted them on Facebook and if you go to the OLBG page you will see my post saying I have posted them and you will see them on my profile. Part 1 - Getting there & …

FA Cup 5th Round Preview - All the games

Feb 16th, 2013 at 11:40 Other Football 0 comments

The 5th round of the FA Cup gets underway at lunchtime with 7 games known, but a 4th round replay tomorrow as Chelski & Brentford fight it out for the right to a trip to Middlesbrough. So here's a preview of the seven 5th round games. No Shocks Here Three games have big names at home and unsurprisingly they're hot faves to go through. They're the top two in the …

FA Cup 4th Round Preview - Potential for a Shock

Jan 26th, 2013 at 11:57 Other Football 2 comments

Potential for a Shock There's three games where I think the odds on fave may not have it all their own way, they may still win but I'm just not convinced at the odds so am going against it. Ok the first of these may not seem a shock as both are in the Championship, but Hull City at home are at the right end, whilst Barnsley are struggling at the other …

FA Cup 4th Round Preview - To Close to Call & No Shocks Here

Jan 25th, 2013 at 17:40 Other Football 0 comments

It's FA Cup time again and so here are some previews of the 4th round games. Again split into similar groups as previously. Two non-league clubs have made it through so far and both face Premiership opposition. 16 ties, and 14 of them see an odds on fave at home or away, so just two games are seen as being close. The first game is tonight …

FA Cup 3rd Round Preview - Potential For a Shock

Jan 5th, 2013 at 11:37 Other Football 0 comments

A shock Result on the Cards? Time to look at those games where teams from a lower division have an opportunity to cause an upset against a side ranked higher. Having rejected a couple of games in other sections I should start with these. It's a football cliché that you don't go back, clearly it's one that Eddie Howe hasn't heard. After making his name as a very young manager …

FA Cup 3rd Round Preview - No Away Day Blues

Jan 5th, 2013 at 00:07 Other Football 0 comments

No Away Day Blues Four clubs face trips to sides at least 3 divisions below them, good news for the home side as they look to fill out their stadium, but it doesn't look good for them to progress. Although I think Luton do have a chance in their game. Three of the sides also represent 3 of the 4 the non-league clubs left in the competition with Luton Town, Macclesfield …

FA Cup 3rd Round Preview - Should Win at Home

Jan 5th, 2013 at 00:05 Other Football 0 comments

At Home, So Should Win, But You Never Know These games see teams at home that are still odds on (or maybe just over) to win, they should do it but it may not be plane sailing. See a game missing from this section then it's probably one I think there could be a shock in. OK I was worried this was going to be an empty section as plenty of …

FA Cup 3rd Round Preview - No Shocks Here

Jan 3rd, 2013 at 23:46 Other Football 0 comments

It's FA Cup time again and so here are some previews of the 3rd round games. Again split into similar groups as previously. The big boys are joining in now, whilst the minnows will be hoping to reach immortality with a giant killing act. So here's the first batch starting with those games where the home team is ranked above the opposition and should go through comfortably. No …

FA Cup 2nd Round Preview - Too Close to Call

Dec 1st, 2012 at 14:19 Other Football 0 comments

Could go Either Way Here The final 4 games today are those that see teams from the same division play each other and these games could go either way. So starting in the Conference then and 2nd bottom Barrow host 9th placed Macclesfield. Form wise though it is with Barrow as they are unbeaten in 4, in all comps, whilst Macclesfield have lost their last 4, scoring just 1. In …

FA Cup 2nd Round Preview - Potential For A Shock

Dec 1st, 2012 at 12:18 Other Football 0 comments

Potential for a Shock Here I guess having not put those 3 games into the “Should Win at Home” section they must be classed as the potential for a shock. So I may still ultimately side with the home side but it'll be close. Also included here are two more games where a League 2 side has a good chance against a side in the division above. Early favourites to …

FA Cup 2nd Round Preview - Should Win at Home

Nov 30th, 2012 at 14:03 Other Football 0 comments

At Home, So Should Win Comfortably, But You Never Know So the next group of games are those where the home side is clearly the better side, either a division or two above, or maybe in the same division but a top versus bottom type clash. However these are perhaps the games where an upset can be caused, a red card here, a player rested there, a dodgy decision who knows. …

FA Cup 2nd Round Preview - Friday & No Shocks Here

Nov 29th, 2012 at 22:08 Other Football 0 comments

It's FA Cup time again and so here are some previews of the 2nd round games. Again split into similar groups as previously. So here's the first batch starting with Friday night's game & then looking at those games where the home team is ranked above the opposition and should go through comfortably. Friday's Game The 2nd round of the FA Cup kicks off as is usual with a game …

FA Cup 1st Round Preview - Sunday's Games

Nov 4th, 2012 at 12:15 Other Football 0 comments

Sunday's Games Final set of games, which kick off shortly, as the last 4 games on Sunday. First game is Conference strugglers Braintree hosting the number 1 seeds at this level Tranmere Rovers. Although at the top of League 1 Tranmere have suffered recently with two losses and a draw in their last 3 games. Braintree have found a little form as well beating 2nd Placed Luton away, and drawing …

FA Cup 1st Round Preview - Potential for a Shock

Nov 3rd, 2012 at 11:59 Other Football 0 comments

Potential for a Shock Here Here's the section I'm sure you've all been looking for those games where I think there may be a shock on the cards. These games could therefore be a big shock with the lower league side winning & going through, or the league side managing to hold on for a draw and take the non-league side back to their ground for a replay. A couple of …

FA Cup 1st Round Preview - No Away Day Blues

Nov 3rd, 2012 at 11:57 Other Football 0 comments

No Away Day Blues Having looked at those teams that should win at home it's time to look at those teams heading to footballing outposts rarely heard off, but should come away unscathed. This is the area where most shocks can happen as those used to “nice” League changing rooms & pitches, travel to the “garden shed” changing rooms & mud baths of non-league grounds and can't cope. So …

Well on Saturday the FA Cup proper kicks off as 80 teams enter at the first round proper stage, the 48 League 1 & 2 teams are joined by 32 …
