I am 100% OLBG! There may be some imitations, but there is only ONE OLBG! Former UK betting shop manager and racing follower for over 40 years, now self-employed providing publishing services and resident in Texas, USA. It took me a long time, and a lot of losing, to work out what it took to make a profit at betting. Mainly it comes down to discipline, and recording every bet that you make. I like to think I have a keen eye for value and made a profit for nine out of the last ten years I was betting, having not bet for about eight years previously, although betting is no longer an option for me (illegal in this state). I am an avid reader of horse/sports betting writing. One piece of advice I can give? Read as much as you can. These days there is so much information to be had that you just cannot ignore it if you want to be able to make a profit. The Racing Post (paper and online) is an outstanding source of information, for example. I only ever bet singles, and virtually always to win - regardless of the odds - and always took the price because it's at that price that I'm seeing the value. Since joining OLBG I've become more involved in the American Football area. The forum for American Football is superb, and full of highly knowledgeable people. It rekindled my interest in NFL which had dropped to just ante-post outright bets for several years. Of course now I'm in Texas I support the Cowboys and the Texas Rangers! I recommend OLBG to everyone I know who likes a bet or who just loves sports interactions. It's an invaluable resource, and teaching tool, for existing and new punters. The knowledge shown by many members of OLBG is an outstanding tool in the search for profit.

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 13

Dec 3rd, 2017 at 03:20 American Football 2 comments

Strike-rate after Wk12: 10 of 35 - 28.5% P/L after Wk 1: -6.35 pts As things tighten up on the run to the play-offs, finding value can be a little tricky but not impossible. Some teams are now just untouchable - Browns, Giants, Cardinals. 49ers, Colts - but I have found three where the odds seem to outweigh the risks. HOUSTON TEXANS on the road to Tennessee Titans Despite the injuries, the Texans aren't …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 12 (Thanksgiving Day) - UPDATED for the Sunday games!

Nov 21st, 2017 at 18:57 American Football 0 comments

The highs and lows of betting were never more apparent than last week. The Giants pull off the win for the blog in overtime against the Chiefs, securing an excellent 7/2 pick, but the 10/3 Redskins - leading by 18 points with only six minutes left - ended up losing in overtime! So one from two last week, and both winners on the Play-Safe option, and we move onto Thanksgiving …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 11

Nov 19th, 2017 at 03:23 American Football 0 comments

Most games this week feature pretty strong-looking favourites, ones that are hard to pick holes in given the state of teams they're playing. It leaves us with four potentials for this week. Two make it in, two are too short in odds. Strike-rate after Wk4: 9 of 31 - 29.0% P/L after Wk 10: -6.15 pts NEW YORK GIANTS at home to Kansas Chiefs When the Chiefs went 5-0 they had looked the …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 10

Nov 8th, 2017 at 19:01 American Football 0 comments

11/4 in a two-runner race is always a nice reward and so hats off to the Redskins for keeping up that good record in Seattle with a win. Of the other two last week, the Bengals were poor against Jacksonville but the Dolphins put up a good fight against the Raiders, going down by a field-goal. but it did mean two out of three correct on the Play Safe options! Strike-rate …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 9

Nov 2nd, 2017 at 19:17 American Football 2 comments

The Jets and Texans both covered the spread in the Play Safe options last week so it was two from three in that sphere. Tipping can be frustrating. Tipping underdogs even more so and requires patience. Last week drew another blank from three games in the outright picks despite the Jets leading against the Falcons going into the fourth quarter and the Texans leading 38-34 with under five minutes of …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 8 - UPDATED

Oct 25th, 2017 at 19:13 American Football 2 comments

Our Play-Safe suggestions produced two winners as the Jets and Browns both managed to cover the spread. Insofar as the outrights were concerned, the Browns disappointingly lost out in overtime, and the Jets lost out after leading 28-14 with 12 minutes to go! That led to a clean sweep of the wrong kind as it meant no wins from six picks. The Bears in the Honourable Mentions came good - …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 7

Oct 17th, 2017 at 22:44 American Football 0 comments

Last week was quite remarkable in terms of betting and NFL game-play. I've already said it in a previous week, but again I have to say it - I've never seen a week like that in the NFL. There were eleven underdog winners last week and for a long time the blog looked to be heading a for a great week as the 4/1 Jets and 4/1 49ers were outplaying …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 6 - UPDATED for Monday Night Game!

Oct 10th, 2017 at 17:03 American Football 10 comments

Our four picks last week certainly produced value for money with three of the quartet close fought games. Two went our way - the Ravens were comfortable winning in Los Angeles and Aaron Rodgers once again showed his magical last-drive Packers offense to down the Cowboys in Dallas. That keeps us in overall profit. Of the honourable mentions, the Browns and Texans played hard but lost, and the Titans also lost. …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 5

Strike-rate after Wk4: 5 of 14 - 35.7% P/L after Wk 1: +0.15 pts One from three last week with the Jets expected home victory. The Colts looked to be heading for a great chance of a win when they went in at half-time, but you'd think they never came back out going by the final score! BILLS 6/4 on the road to the Bengals I expect this to be a defensive battle. I …

Dontcha just love those BEARS? The hoodoo the Bears have over the Steelers continues after they once again beat them in Chicago. The Chargers lost, badly, to the Chiefs and are going backwards. The REDSKINS do us proud though, showing some pretty neat defense against the Raiders, and finally the Cowboys put paid to our Cardinals pick. The Cardinals could be in line for a rough season as offensively they …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 3

Sep 21st, 2017 at 21:30 American Football 2 comments

Oh boy, so near and yet so far. The COLTS led everywhere bar the finishing line, losing on an OT FG kick. The Bears and Saints were awful - no question about it - but the Dolphins sneaked it in LA against the Chargers to at least get one win on the board for the weekend. Strike-rate after Wk2: 2 of 7 - 28.6% P/L after Wk 1: (1.875 pts) We have some …

The NFL Underdog Blog - 2017 Week 2

Sep 14th, 2017 at 20:21 American Football 0 comments

Last week the early pick, LA Rams, got the ultimately-expected easy win over the Colts. That's one of the advantages of getting the blog up early, but of course there's a down-side and that was shown on the next pick - the Giants. At time of writing Beckham looked to be in for the Giants and Elliott looked to be out for the Cowboys. Come game time, it was the …

It's back! THE NFL UNDERDOG BLOG! This time round we start at week one. Here it is. No time wasted. No lengthy editorial. No waffle. Points of praise and points of pain only! AFC EAST Patriots: Give it to them now, Edelman or no Edelman. Miami Dolphins: Might have had a squeak, but no Tannahill = no chance. Buffalo Bills: Spending more time getting rid of people than anything else. Might reach .500 New York Jets: Oh dear... The NFL Underdog Blog - Preview & Bold Picks for the Season

Aug 26th, 2017 at 21:02 American Football 0 comments

While the NFL Underdog Blog posts eye-catching game picks on a weekly basis, this season it looks at some rather attractive nicely-priced teams who could perform much better than their current preseason odds. The draft presented opportunities for all teams to improve, strengthen, replace, or at times start rebuilding almost afresh or so it seems. The Bills, for example, seem to going right back to the drawing board, having tossed Rex …

NFL 2017 Rising Stars

Aug 12th, 2017 at 20:48 American Football 0 comments

I'm going to look at the NFL season from a slightly different angle with this article. We al know the NFL is an almost continuous state of flux, with measures in place to prevent teams to be dominant over long numbers of seasons (you listening, New England?), so we expect change, often drastic change, each year as teams use the draft, free agency, and the hindrance of a salary cap …

Cheltenham Festival - The Missing Link to Finding Winners

Four days of the best of the best that jumping can bring together - The Cheltenham Festival. The challenge for punters is far greater here than at any other meeting at any time in the season. It's little wonder why. Horses come here trained specifically for the moment - primed to run well. Many of them brought along to still have something extra in the tank - more improvement to …

LAST WEEK Update to come Performance on the season: To be updated This week LA RAMS 13/2 on the road to the New England Patriots - Sunday 13/2 is HUGE. Gronk is out and while one person doesn't make a team, it's clear that the Patriots are not the same team without him and Brady is not the same QB without him. Brady also carries a knee injury. Certainly can't complain about that! The NFL Underdog Blog - Week Three

Sep 25th, 2016 at 14:15 American Football 3 comments

Last Week What a nice start with two out of three including the 5/2 Rams shocking the Seahawks at home. It won't have been a shock to die-hard Rams or Seahawks fans as they've now seen the Rams do this in the home fixture in all bar one of the last five seasons. The Eagles rounded the week off in comfortable fashion in the Monday Night game in Chicago. Performance on the …

The NFL Underdog Blog is Back! Welcome back to the new NFL season and the underdog blog! NFL Underdog Blog - Conference Finals

Jan 24th, 2016 at 04:09 American Football 0 comments

Last week All four play-off games looked clear-cut last week and so it turned out. Previous to that in the wild-card week we did have three underdog picks, two of which turned from winners to losers in eye-opening fashion. First the Bengals had only to prevent a first down by Pittsburgh to win the game but instead saw defensive player Burfick dive helmet first into Antonio Brown on an incomplete pass …

They say that golf is a mental game. The golfer is in his own world, with his own thoughts - no coaches calling out instructions, no captain to rally and encourage. Tennis fits this scenario too. The NFL Underdog Blog - Week 15

Dec 19th, 2015 at 19:22 American Football 2 comments

Last week A satisfying two from three last week. The Saints kept up their habit of winning in Tampa and the Steelers were really ready for the Bengals. The loss of Dalton helped of course, but that's all part of the game and betting. The Texans did well defensively for a good part of the game but with no offense to speak of, when they got behind they had no way …

The NFL Underdog Blog - Week 14

Dec 12th, 2015 at 23:16 American Football 0 comments

Last week How close was last week? The Lions actually lead as time ran out, yet a face-mask penalty gave the Packers one play with no time on the clock... and if you don't know what happened you must have been underground for the weekend! The Saints served it up to the unbeaten Panthers all game an only just lost out at the end. The Texans were level as the last …

The NFL Underdog Blog - Week 11: So What Makes a Good Underdog?

Nov 21st, 2015 at 20:14 American Football 4 comments

Last week It's pretty frustrating when in a week of ten underdogs winning, we couldn't find one for the blog, but that just about sums up one of the most absurd weekends of NFL football I can remember watching. Our pick, the Browns was subject to a comedy of errors of circumstance which made a mockery of it. When the blog was written and the pick made, Josh MCown was going …

You've seen them on TV. "The Official Ball of the World Cup", or "The Official Tablet of the NFL". I even saw an advert just yesterday for "The Official Yoghurt of the NFL" WHAT?? SERIOUSLY?? Seems like companies with products of all kinds are clammering to get on the product endorsement bandwagon. Where does it end? Are we going to see "The Official Tampon of the NFL", where cheerleaders employed by NFL …

NFL: 10 Reasons Why the Return of Tony Romo Could See the Dallas Cowboys Make the Play-Offs

Nov 19th, 2015 at 20:31 American Football 3 comments

Unless there's some huge setback, Tony Romo will return as quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday for the visit to Miami. Most fans probably expected a couple of wins while he was out, so the seven losses in a row was hurtful. It would have been devastating but for the fact that none of the other NFC East teams have managed to take a hold of the division, …

That list contains the last six Superbowl winning quarterbacks, and ten of the last twelve. Yet all but one of those lost this Sunday, Nov 15th - a day when reputations were torn apart, in some cases brutally so. Joe Flacco, in a season to forget already, threw three interceptions in …

OLBG NFL Top 3 Wide Receivers for October 2015

Nov 5th, 2015 at 17:03 American Football 0 comments

The award for WR of the month was a tight affair. There were some outstanding performers from September who didn't quite carry forward the excellent form, but in the end it was one of the quieter men of the NFL who came out on top in the vote: #1 ALLEN ROBINSON - Jacksonville Jaguars He may not be a star wide receiver. He may not draw the attention of a Dez Bryant …

Bookmakers Closing Accounts: Why They've Got it Wrong

If you're reading this, it may be because you've gone through the experience of having one, or more, accounts closed by the major bookmakers. It's becoming a more common-place occurrence and is no longer reserved for the ultra-shrewd, big-playing gambler. It's happening to punters who stake smaller amounts (well below £50), and those who have had accounts for years, and luckily (or not, as it seems) hit a few winners. …

Last week Last week was so close to being very good. The 4/1 initially on offer for the Jags went down and down to 7/4, and in the end they lost - but frustratingly so! Two field goals attempts, one near the end of normal time and one in overtime, could have sealed the win for them but in the end the Colts once again scraped an unimpressive win. Two of …
