I have been a member of Olbg since September 2009 and must say it's one of the most user friendly sites out there. The fact all tips, comments, stats & performances are recorded and available for inspection it really does mean you have to bring a professional approach. You are judged on what you say and do, so I will do my best to help others along the way in our journey to prise some profit out of those miserly bookies. I am a genuine horse racing enthusiast and have spent (or some might say wasted!) over 30 years as an avid punter and the beauty is I am still learning. This site definitely helps as the information and knowledge of other members available is excellent.....and free. My other hobbies are photography and cricket, I'm the current Skipper of Seveno CC a south London friendly cricket team and we're always looking for new players. I'm also a keen photographer and have captured some great memories especially from Cheltenham and if any photos catch your eye, please get in touch. For me, all roads from about November lead to the greatest sporting event of the year, The Cheltenham Festival and I have been going nearly every year since 1998. The memories, stories, good punts & bad will make a great book one day! I always look for value and hopefully a few juicy punts click on here. I would say horse racing is my game but I do like the odd dabble in the golf, boxing & cricket markets. Enjoy the ride!

Final chance for the actors to experience the stage before big play performance With less than two months to wish away before the Cheltenham Festival gets going the final pieces of the jigsaw will soon be in place. This weekend Cheltenham enjoys Sandown's loss with the Clarence House and the rearranged Cross-country chase from a previous meeting. A bumper nine race card gives punters, owners, trainers, riders and the most importantly …

Cheltenham Festival Ante Post - A Few Thoughts For 2017

Jan 16th, 2017 at 20:09 Cheltenham 0 comments

Ante-post punting? It is all about timing and you have to dive in if you think you've found a price worth taking. Taking an early price is not for everyone, but you have to back a horse if you think you have found one who you think is wrongly quoted With just two months to go until the tapes for the Supreme Novice Hurdle ping up and the roar …

ITV Racing A Dawning Of An Old Era At Cheltenham Today

Jan 1st, 2017 at 12:32 Horse Racing 13 comments

New Year Means New Start at Spiritual Home! For those of a certain age ITV Racing means World Of Sport, Dickie Davies, Kent Walton, Wrestling and a pop at the ITV 7 a pre-cursor to the Scoop 6. I got into this great sport thanks to an "Uncle" who used to blag the old man's sofa whenever his own marital woes meant he was out on his ear! He loved his racing and …

Weekend's Cheltenham's Trials & Hendo's Tribulations Leave Plenty To Ponder For The Season Ahead.

Nov 16th, 2016 at 23:19 Cheltenham 1 comments

Fascinating card on the Cotswolds leaves plenty to digest for the months to come The National Hunt Season stepped up another notch for me this weekend just gone, and anyone who knows me knows the Cheltenham Festival in March is very much in my thoughts from November onwards. Trying to winkle out gems is my aim and it is always worth having a close look at goings on at the …

Another Star-studded Cheltenham Preview bunch of notes can hopefully lead to a bunch of five-rs! If you like your boozers salt of the earthy, no frills and just hard core drinking dens with a penchant for sport and a bookie right next door then Ganleys in south London is your place. What Landlord Frank & son Kieran do do though is pull out all the stops with the kind help of …

Super Sire Kayf Tara Proving Best Of British Yet Again

Dec 28th, 2015 at 22:20 Horse Racing 8 comments

Keeping the faith in Kayf has kept the winnings rolling in and can lead to a very profitable 2016 Well it is nearly that time of year when we look back and reflect on what we've done in the past and look forward to what fortunes hold in store for the forthcoming year. 2016 edges ever closer and if like me you love the National Hunt game then this season hasn't disappointed. Old …

Old Guard proving to be no back numbers in a season to remember, with much more to come

Nov 22nd, 2015 at 10:45 Horse Racing 4 comments

Old Guard like the Home Guard awaiting Mullins' Battalions Last week Old Guard won the Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham and throw down the gauntlet to some more fancied rivals and though he can make waves in the 2m hurdling division he'll do well to upstage the real "Old Guard." The aptly named winner's handle can be used to describe what we've seen up to now and why I just love the …

The season is geared up totally to those four glorious days in March and …

Longchamp to witness something special as Treve can land historic third Arc.

Oct 2nd, 2015 at 20:46 Horse Racing 4 comments

Longchamp notebook from last year can harvest profit with Treve the cherry on top! Last year I was lucky enough to be at Longchamp to witness the mighty Treve secure her second Prix De L'Arc de Triomphe and place in history. It was a great day and an electric atmosphere celebrating such a great feat she & jockey Thierry Jarnet pulled off. It was also the training performance of a lifetime …

Host Nation England Massive Value......Just Ask Paddy Power!

Sep 9th, 2015 at 19:00 Rugby Union 4 comments

Are England a value bet to land 2015 Rugby World Cup at Fortress Twickenham? The 2015 Rugby World Cup is nearly upon us and though obviously feeling patriotic and wanting to back England to win a second World Cup, can we find any value? 5-1 is the best price on the scene with Sportingbet, and at a 1/3 of the odds for 1-2 finish, that rates a 1.67-1 shot but not …

Fifth Ashes Test at The Kia Oval a tale of three Captains.

Aug 19th, 2015 at 21:45 Cricket 2 comments

Captain Cook to go down in history as first English Skipper to lead his men to four home wins in an Ashes series Now in a normal dead rubber a punt is a dodgy prospect as trying to call a result is fraught with danger. Who knows what mindset a team is in with the prize already in the bag or the thought of getting on the plane home as soon …

Strauss Overtures Leading to a "New England" and Lords Test pivotal in Ashes History.

Jul 15th, 2015 at 09:07 Cricket 1 comments

Harmonious England looking to nail Aussies again Well what can you say? The first Test at Cardiff was a joy to watch if you are an England supporter and was close to perfection. England are notoriously slow starters, as much as Australia normally being fast out of the traps but I for one knew England were underestimated and a series win voucher at the odds 9-2 is sitting nicely in my …

Ashes 2015, England to tame "The Backyard Bashers" with their own scrappers.

Jun 28th, 2015 at 13:57 Cricket 2 comments

Forthcoming Ashes Series has all the hallmarks of a classic, but England can scrape home in what promises to be a real dog-fight. Well we're not too far away from the First Ashes Test in Cardiff and I for one can't wait for the action to start. I still can't believe it's 10 years since that brilliant 2005 series here where Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff brought out the kid in me when …

Nicky Henderson novice hurdlers to fly Seven Barrows' Cheltenham Flag, but "A Team" Chase more glory!

Feb 24th, 2015 at 20:46 Cheltenham 0 comments

Nicky Henderson media day, gets the Cheltenham Festival juices flowing! A lucky invite as Dean's (Drobgod) wingman was gratefully accepted as the Cheltenham bound charabanc parked itself on the Seven Barrows lawn, as trainer Nicky Henderson opened his doors once again to the media scrum. After ditching the Sat-Nav and following our noses we made it just in time for the parade of stable stars. L'AMI SERGE was first out of the boxes …

Man Of Steel AP McCoy Lights Up A Fine Personal Weekend!!

Feb 8th, 2015 at 18:54 Horse Racing 1 comments

A memorable weekend is dominated by just one man......."The Champ & Legend, that is AP McCoy!" Well that was some weekend! For me the last few months punting has been a nightmare, but to be fair I've been keeping the powder relatively dry because in just one month the real punting boots go on as The Cheltenham Festival becomes the be-all and end-all! It's been a funny old season as soft ground for …

Dec 17th, 2014 at 22:49 Horse Racing 2 comments

Three longshots to hopefully bring a bit of festive cheer. Well it's that time of year when giving rather than receiving is the right thing to do, and that giving comes at a price! The real festive period is nearly upon us and after a last minute present shopping spree, enough food purchased to feed an army, a booze run and the dreaded tax bill that needs attention.......the cup doth not …

Paddy Power Meeting Trumpets Cheltenham Festival Feelings......But Punting A Minefield Means Caution Advised

Three-Day Bonanza on The Cotswolds signals start of the proper NH season and these are the "Trusted Ten" to keep a soul dreaming! Well it's that time of year again when I normally switch onto The National Hunt game and really start thinking of those iconic four days in March. Breeders' Cup Eve Brings Back Happy Memories....But Who'll Go Into Folklore This Time Around?

Oct 31st, 2014 at 20:30 Horse Racing 0 comments

Title "World Championship Racing" a misnomer, but no doubting the quality on view Tonight sees the start of the two-day meeting at Santa Anita for the annual slug-fest between the home Team America and the ever increasing marauding European horde. The meeting is not everyone's cup of tea, but for me it brings back happy memories of past champions and the hope you will see something similar unfold, as legends …

Qipco British Champion's Day........More an End of Season Jolly-Up!

Oct 16th, 2014 at 21:41 Horse Racing 3 comments

End Of Season Championship sadly lacking The Champions but will be a party not to miss! A couple of days to go before the supposed celebration of Champions and though this season's star names won't be appearing it will still be a decent days racing. It does have the feel of an "End of Season Bash" though. It's a day that is much maligned owing to it's position in the calendar …

"The Indians Are Coming".......Cook's Last Stand!

England facing a pivotal Series against a rejuvenated India I haven't looked forward to a Test Series as much as this up and coming encounter for years......and that includes Ashes battles. India have arrived for a proper Five Test Series that will go a long way to sorting out the pecking order in World Cricket Rankings. These two teams, are arguably both in a state of flux and a transitional period, England …

Flattest Of Flat Seasons.........Is Finally Taking Shape!

May 21st, 2014 at 22:35 Horse Racing 7 comments

With Classics on the horizon, Epsom and Royal Ascot in my sights.....I'm finally into this flat season. It's been a while since I dipped my toe into the Blogosphere, and it's not only because the day job has kept me busy, but also because it's been pretty lame up to now, in my opinion. However you can feel the change in the air, as the top notchers are finally coming out to …

Have You Ever Heard The Liver Bird Singing So Loudly As Focus Turns To The Grand National & Great City

1977...To blame for my fake Scouse-ness & love for "THE" Greatest Steeplechase of all! Well it's that time of the year when Cheltenham is but a form guide in addition to memories to savour and thoughts turn to The Grand National. The hype and build up that goes into the process of surviving The Cheltenham Festival gives way to a more enjoyable feel where Aintree is concerned. No-one can deny that I get …

Cheltenham Eve rekindles that kiddy feeling! Now we are are only hours away from the greatest sporting event bar NONE and I'm fit to pop! There is a definite change in the air as the short month that is …

How Much A Punter Needs Confidence, And Lady Luck

Feb 15th, 2014 at 08:27 Horse Racing 2 comments

A turn for the better after knocking on the door for too long, a punter's woes! I was going to do a blog about my Cheltenham festival ante-post portfolio, but seeing as that revolves almost solely around AT FISHERS CROSS at fancy prices for the World Hurdle it actually wouldn't have been a long or very entertaining piece! So my thoughts turned to tomorrow's card and made me think about how a …

The Cheltenham Festival, One Month Tomorrow & Then It's Roar Supreme & Crown The Queen

Feb 10th, 2014 at 21:39 Cheltenham 0 comments

A Weekend's Reflections Really Have The Juices Flowing! After a cracking weekend's racing at the likes of Warwick, Newbury, Leopardstown and even Exeter the Cheltenham Festival really does feel like it is within touching distance now. It has been noted that I'm unhealthily looking forward to those four great days on The Cotswolds and to be fair it's hard to disagree! However, the significant other's birthday that has quite ridiculously dropped on …

From Ascot To Cheltenham, What A Week and It All Leads To The Festival Now!

Jan 25th, 2014 at 20:19 Cheltenham 5 comments

If they say a week is a long time in politics....they should try horse racing! Well what a week that was and now the dust has settled on the Cheltenham Trials Day I suppose a bit of reflection wouldn't go amiss, with my glass of vino! A week ago today we were at Ascot as HIGHLAND RETREAT plundered more of Olbg's cash with a second Mares race this season and what a …

Blue Monday Blues? Don't Worry Not Long Until The Cheltenham Festival 2014!

Post Christmas blues are washed away with Pre-Cheltenham thoughts I knew the festive period was well and truly over when the significant other half started stripping......the Christmas tree that is, and all the decorations were put back in their box for another year. The rain has been of biblical proportions lately and watching that great film Evan Almighty on Sunday night got me thinking it might be time to start knocking up …

Can Long Run & Bobs Worth redeem themselves and pay for our Christmas?? The Festive period is all about a bit of reflection and sometimes a look back at the trials and tribulations of the year gone by. Today on Christmas Eve as I prepare for the hordes of Yuletide locusts.......sorry in-laws, that are about to descend on Chez Rann and eat and drink us out of said home, I have to …

First Cheltenham ante-post bet as Lord Windermere could throw his hat into Gold Cup ring On the eve of last year's Hennessy Gold Cup such was the strength of my convictions I felt the need to blog and share my thoughts. Five thoughts for the forthcoming NH season and I'm afraid it's Cheltenham on my mind! As Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day muses "Wake me up when September ends" and I can't help but agree with the lyrical maestro. September has passed and frankly from a punting perspective, I'm glad to see the back of it. The flat season is over for me bar The Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe and …
