Six Nations Format and Past Winners
The Six Nations Rugby tournament is contested annually by England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales, France and Italy. The competition has been in its current format since 2000 when Italy first took part, the six countries play one game against each other, with home-ground advantage alternating each year.
The points system is open to amendment, but as of 2018:
- A win is 4 points, or if the country scores four tries or more 5 points.
- If the losing country scores four tries or more OR by a margin of seven points or fewer it scores 1 point.
- If the losing country scores four tries or more AND loses by a margin of seven points or fewer it scores 2 points.
- Countries that draw a game shall each be awarded 2 points, any of them that score four tries or more in the process shall be awarded a further 1 point.
