York Draw Bias

The most profitable stall at York in the win market when breaking it down to race trips is stall 2 over a trip of 1m2½f, backing all runners in this stall over that trip over the past five years would have returned a profit of +66.17. The stall with the worst loss at York in the win market when breaking it down to race trips is stall 11 over a trip of 6f, backing all runners in this stall over that trip over the past five years would have returned a loss of -78.00.

Here we have the draw bias for York taken into consideration races with ten or more runners, we will break down the figures by race distance, draws can be much more important over the shorter trips in which runners do not have time to find their position during the race meaning the draw is probably more important than the races over longer distances.

  • Sprints (5f to 7½f)
  • Mile (1m to 1m1½f)
  • Middle Distance (1m2f to 1m5½f)
  • Long Distance (1m6f or further)

The following table shows a breakdown over a group of trips and shows how each position of the draw does, for example in a twelve-runner race would be Low (Stalls 1-4), Mid (Stalls 5-8) and High (Stalls 9-12), the positions will always be lowest stall number to highest.

The second day of the festival which is better known as Ladies Day has the Yorkshire Oaks as the highlight of the day, this Group 1 is open only to fillies and mares and is contested over just shy of one mile and four furlongs. It's another race in which Sir Michael Stoute has a good record with nine wins, a record he shares with Mathew Dawson who has winners between 1868 & 1884. York Ebor Festival - Friday

The Nunthorpe, like the Group 1's on the opening two days is part of the British Champions Series and is the feature on day three, this race is contested over five furlongs. You can tend to look further than the favourite in this race, we have twice had 40/1 winners (2013 & 2018) in recent times. No trainer has been able to lock down repeat wins in recent times which means Ossie Bell still holds the record of five wins between 1926 & 1937 whilst Lester Piggott is the leading jockey with an impressive seven wins on six different horses.

York Ebor Festival - Saturday

The fourth and final day of the festival is known as Ebor Day because the feature race is the Ebor Heritage Handicap, a class two contested over nearly one mile and six furlongs normally attracts a large field and quite often produces a winner a double-figure odds. Inaugurated in 1843 it is once again Lester Piggott who holds the record for riding winners, he rode a total of five whilst Tod Dawson's long-standing record of five wins as a trainer between 1844 & 1867 still stands strong, Stoute & Cumani both on three wins are the closest to his record.
