The form of that race has worked out well, with both Harvey and I'm Workin On It, who finished behind him, subsequently winning. His standout piece of turf form came last season when winning a 3yo handicap at Goodwood over 1m on good ground. Racing off 81, he won by 1¼ lengths and looked a progressive performer at the time. The handicapper has eased him 1 lb to a mark of 85, and the drop back in trip could help him travel more comfortably before using his finishing kick. Another interesting angle is the application of first-time blinkers, which may sharpen him up and help unlock further improvement. With proven form at the distance, a workable mark, and the potential for the headgear to have a positive effect, Cavolo Nero looks capable of getting back on track and should be competitive in this company.
