7:00 Kempton Tips

The 3yo has one win from four starts. Soft ground may have been an excuse when last seen. There is plenty to like about his fast-turf, 5L novice stakes win on his third start, with a couple of capable yardsticks in second and third that day. He is trained at a top yard, and more progress is possible after a four-month break. His current handicap mark looks attractive.

I do like horses out of Saxon Warrior trying Kempton for the first time, and Prodigal Son ran better last time with first-time pieces. They remain on today, and the drop to 6f might help after not quite seeing out 7f.

I could definitely make a case for every runner in this race. But I'm going for Distant Rumble, who looks overpriced compared to the other eight on my shortlist. He ran at Windsor and Chepstow in the summer, which are both tracks runners love or hate in equal measure. His win at Kempton in January and his third after a break recently bode well.

Kept on well when third of seven over 7 furlongs here on penultimate, but last of seven over the same trip on the Southwell Tapeta last time out. The drop in trip, combined with the return to Polytrack, is appealing.
