Hamilton Park Racecourse Guide

Hamilton Park is situated just off the M74, it is 15 miles south of Glasgow and about 40 from Edinburgh, the racecourse is set in fantastic surroundings.

To attract better racing, there is also an increase in the prize money offered, something that looks set to continue with record levels set year after year.

A slightly short season of flat racing takes place between May and October.

Type of Racing: Flat Only.

Hamilton Race Highlights: The main fixtures are Ladies’ Night and the Saints & Sinners meetings, held at the beginning of August and late June respectively.

The feature race is the Listed Glasgow Stakes run over an extended 10 furlongs in July. In 2016, the race was won by Ventura Storm who would go on to finish second in the Doncaster St. Leger.

Also run on the same day is the Scottish Stewards Cup, a competitive class two handicap which has been a favourite for Richard Fahey in the past.

How to get the best Hamilton tips

There is a tendency for runners to stick to the far rail when the ground is soft or heavy. This may give low numbers an advantage in sprints under those conditions. The proximity of the turns after the start of 8 & 9-furlong races makes getting a good position important and a low draw may help.

With the steep descent into the dip and a climb for the final 3f, horses running prominently will do well unless going for home too soon as they can become very tired in the last furlong or so. Watch out for Hamilton track specialists here due to the nature of the course.

Hamilton Draw Bias

When breaking Hamilton down into trips you can look at which stall and trip combination has produced the best LSP, that would be stall 1 over a trip of 6f which has, over the last five years produced an LSP of +220.95. With an LSP of -61.96, the most unsuccessful stall at Hamilton is stall 5 when backing runners over a trip of 5f over the last five years.

Here we have the draw bias for Hamilton taken into consideration races with ten or more runners, we will break down the figures by race distance, draws can be much more important over the shorter trips in which runners do not have time to find their position during the race meaning the draw is probably more important than the races over longer distances.

  • Sprints (5f to 7½f)
  • Mile (1m to 1m1½f)
  • Middle Distance (1m2f to 1m5½f)

The following table shows a breakdown over a group of trips and shows how each position of the draw does, for example in a twelve-runner race would be Low (Stalls 1-4), Mid (Stalls 5-8) and High (Stalls 9-12), the positions will always be lowest stall number to highest.
