From 1964 , just after the legalisation of betting shops , I spent the first 7 years of my working life in a credit betting office as I was too young to work in the shop. I had some success with my own 2yo ratings , unwittingly using a method I only recently discovered was used by Timeform.
My claim to fame was Foinavon in the Grand National after watching him run in the Gold Cup. I said he was a good FRONT RUNNER who could repay E/W support by avoiding trouble in running !!
With the advent of exchanges the emphasis of my betting has switched to LAYING. As Winston Churchill may have put it , I have not reached the beginning of the end of the learning process , but I hope I have reached the end of the beginning of it.
