Zola Odds On To Be Next West Ham Manager After Interviews
Tuesday 09 September 2008 at 09:07
Gianfranco Zola is the overwhelming favourite to be the next West Ham manager following rumours that he came off the best in the interview stage.
The former Chelsea player's experience in the Premier League is apparently what set him apart from the other candidates, including Roberto Donadoni, who also impressed the club, BBC Sport reports.
Zola is currently available at 3/8 with Betfair to get the job, while Donadoni is 23/5.
Earlier on Monday, William Hill suggested it could take a hammering if the ex-striker became the next West Ham manager - and that was when he was still on offer at 11/8.
The Italian's standing in the market was no doubt boosted by the dismissal of some of his chief rivals.
Punters can still get 43/5 on Slaven Bilic at the betting exchange, although his chances were "ruled out" this week, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup looks set to head to Russia to take over at Spartak Moscow.
In the next Newcastle manager market, Zola's old team-mate Gustavo Poyet is 18/19 at Betfair to get the position.
