Sotherton Backed For Olympics Heptathlon Gold
Thursday 14 August 2008 at 09:01
Kelly Sotherton is receiving a lot of interest from punters as she gears up for the Olympics heptathlon event in Beijing.
The Athens bronze medallist has been backed in from 6/1 to 4/1 at William Hill, making her the third favourite for the competition.
Company spokesman Rupert Adams remarked: "Kelly felt that she was not being given enough credit in the run up to the Olympics but if she could see how many bets there are for her she would be pleasantly surprised."
Sportingbet offers the best odds on a Sotherton victory at 11/2, with Russian Tatyana Chernova (10/3, SkyBet) and Ukrainian Lyudmila Blonska (7/2, Stan James) the two favourites.
The competition gets underway on Friday August 15th and gold for Sotherton would likely put her in strong contention for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Denise Lewis came second off the back of her heptathlon win in the Sydney Games, but there are more than half a dozen other sports people who stand a better chance of winning the prize, according to the odds.
Sotherton is available at 16/1 for the telelvision gong at William Hill.
