Friday 08 August 2008 at 09:02
Jeev Milkha Singh got his quest for a first Major tour title off to a good start yesterday at the US PGA Championship at Oakland Hills, Michigan.
The Indian carded 68 for round one to leave himself in the lead along with Sweden's Robert Karlsson on two under par.
Andres Romero, who finished third at the Open Championship last year, is also two under, but was forced to stop playing after 16 holes due to bad light.
Out of the early frontrunners, Karlsson is given the best chance of victory by the bookmakers, with Ladbrokes making him the third favourite at 14/1.
Romero is 33/1 at Paddy Power, while Singh is a 50/1 shot with Totesport.
Phil Mickelson, who is two shots off the pace going into day two, is now an even bigger favourite than when the competition started, with Paddy Power offering the best odds on the American at 8/1.
Sergio Garcia, currently in joint-fourth place on one under, is 11/1 at Paddy Power, followed by one-over Padraig Harrington at 14/1 with Bet 365.
Lee Westwood, who was heavily backed before the competition began, is now 250/1 for victory at Bet 365 after carding 77.
