Mickelson Set To Be US PGA Championship Favourite
Thursday 07 August 2008 at 09:01
Phil Mickelson looks likely to be the favourite when the golfers line up for the US PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club later today. SkyBet offers 11/1 on the world number two winning the competition for the second time, with double Open Championship titlist Padraig Harrington the next best backed at 20/1 with Totesport. Vijay Singh, who won the last Major of the year back in 1998 and 2004, is the third favourite at 22/1 with Stan James. Lee Westwood - who has been receiving the most attention from punters this week, according to William Hill - is 25/1 at Sportingbet to go one better than he managed last week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The same odds are available on Sergio Garcia at Totesport, while Retief Goosen - who has also turned in some solid performances in recent weeks - is 28/1 at Stan James. It has been said by William Hill that the betting market for this year's US PGA Championship is even quieter than usual, with the absence of world number one Tiger Woods given as the main reason.
