US PGA Championship Betting Focuses On Westwood
Wednesday 06 August 2008 at 09:10
The majority of the money being wagered on the US PGA Championship this week continues to go on Englishman Lee Westwood, according to William Hill. Without Tiger Woods the betting market for the final Major of the year has been even slower than usual, the bookmaker said, although punters are piling money on last week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational runner-up. "The PGA is always the quietest of the four Majors but with the notable exception of Lee Westwood, this year has been particularly slow," commented Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill. Westwood is currently the joint-fourth favourite to win at Oakland Hills this weekend. Punters can get odds of 25/1 on the 35-year-old at Sportingbet, the same price which Sergio Garcia is available at with Stan James. Phil Mickelson (11/1, VC Bet) is the outright favourite, followed by Padraig Harrington (20/1, Bet 365) and Vijay Singh (22/1, VC Bet). In the match betting, Westwood is 6/4 at VC Bet to come out on top against Zach Johnson and Geoff Ogilvy. Odds of 5/2 are available on Ogilvy doing the best out of the group at Sportingbet, while Johnson is 15/8 at Stan James.
