Good Draw For Stewards Cup Favourite
Friday 01 August 2008 at 09:13
Stewards' Cup favourite Prime Defender's connections have declared themselves happy with his draw for Saturday's sprint at Goodwood.
The four-year-old, best-priced 9/1 at Bet365, will start in stall 19, which assistant trainer Charlie Hills believes will suit him.
"I'm very happy with that that. We wanted to be off the rail so the jockey can decide where to go," Hills, the son of trainer Barry, told the Press Association.
Prime Defender has been installed as favourite for the 28-runner sprint despite winning just four of his 24 starts, with the last of those successes coming over six furlongs at Haydock in May 2007.
Richard Fahey's Knot In Wood and Robin Bastiman's Borderlescott are available at 12/1 with 888Sport and Ladbrokes respectively.
Both horses were close to glory in last year's Stewards' Cup, with Borderlescott losing out by a short head to winner Zidane and Knot in Wood third.
Totesport is offering 14/1 on King's Apostle, Mac Gille Eoin and Machinist, while top weight Edge Closer can be backed at 33/1 with Skybet.
