World Matchplay Darts Champion Claims More Is To Come
Thursday 24 July 2008 at 09:02
Reigning Stan James World Matchplay champion James Wade has suggested he has plenty left in reserve as the 2008 tournament reaches its latter stages in Blackpool.
The Aldershot player looked in excellent form last night, managing a 97.99 three-dart average in his 13-7 second round victory over Ronnie Baxter, Planet Darts reports.
Few players have managed better at the Winter Gardens so far this week and Wade believes there is still more to come.
He is quoted by the PDC website as saying: "I'm still learning and taking things on board.
"All I can do is keep practising and doing what I do best, but I still haven't hit top gear yet."
Wade is 4/1 to retain his crown with SkyBet, while Phil 'The Power' Taylor remains the overwhelming favourite at 4/9 with Stan James. His average has yet to drop below 100 so far.
Meanwhile, the price on Raymond van Barneveld appears to be moving out all the time, despite his 13-3 destruction of Tony Eccles last night.
He averaged 90.99 for the match and is now 10/1 to win the championship at Blue Square and Sportingbet.
