Bookies Differ On Coral Eclipse Favourite
Tuesday 01 July 2008 at 09:03
There is a difference of opinion between some of the UK's biggest bookmakers as to which horse appears the strongest going into the Coral Eclipse Stakes on Saturday.
Henry Cecil's Phoenix Tower is the favourite at SkyBet, Stan James and Ladbrokes, while Aidan O'Brien's Mount Nelson has the shorter price of the two at William Hill, Paddy Power and Boylesports.
Commenting on his company's decision to offer the lower odds on Phoenix Tower, Ladbrokes spokesman David Williams told the Daily Star that the horse "proved at Royal Ascot that he gets ten furlongs and can be expected to be given a more aggressive ride".
"His proven form looks stronger than Mount Nelson at this stage but there's little in it," he added.
Simon Clare of Coral suggested to the newspaper that Nelson is actually the stronger of the two and that he is looking to follow in the footsteps of 7/2 Kooyonga from 1992.
Both horses are available at 4/1 best odds from VC Bet, Blue Square and Sportingbet, but they are certainly not the only mounts with a chance of victory.
Paddy Power offers 5/1 on another Cecil ride Multidimensional, while Pipedreamer is 11/2 with Sportingbet.
