Monday 30 June 2008 at 09:22
Phil Taylor has demonstrated that he is in excellent form going into this week's Las Vegas Desert Classic.
The Power cruised to victory in yesterday's Las Vegas Players Championship, defeating Ronnie Baxter in the final following wins over Mark Walsh and Michael van Gerwen, planetdarts.tv reports.
It is the ninth time this year that Taylor has triumphed in a PDC Pro Tour event and confirms his position as favourite for the Classic, which he will take part in from Wednesday.
Stan James offers odds of 4/5 that the Stoke man wins his fourth Las Vegas Major this week, with his nearest rival expected to be UK Open champion James Wade (11/2, Stan James).
Raymond van Barneveld, who won the competition last year, is 6/1 at Stan James, while 2006 titlist John Part is 20/1 at PartyBets.
The only other man to have held the Las Vegas Desert Classic crown, Peter Manley, is among the outsiders at 66/1 with Stan James.
Qualification for the tournament begins today, with Baxter against Jelle Klaasen the pick of the first round games.
