Mauresmo V Serena Highlights Wimbledon Ladies Line-up
Friday 27 June 2008 at 09:01
The biggest match in the Wimbledon ladies competition so far takes place on Centre Court today.
Amelie Mauresmo, who won the Grand Slam in 2006, and two-time champion Serena Williams will face each other in the third round.
Mauresmo was number one seed two years ago but her standing on the world stage has slipped since then and she is now only seeded at 29, with Totesport offering odds of 66/1 on her winning the title.
Williams on the other hand is seeded six and is the joint-favourite at the bookies, with a price of 3/1 available at SkyBet.
The American is also expected to defeat her French rival, with Blue Square offering 2/7 on her reaching the next round, while Mauresmo is 7/2 at Sportingbet.
Number one seed Ana Ivanovic (3/1, Boylesports) plays today on Court One and is 1/7 at Coral to be victorious over Jie Zheng.
Along with Venus Williams (3/1, Coral), Serena and Ivanovic saw their prices shorten last night after the elimination of Maria Sharapova, who Ladbrokes revealed was by far the most heavily backed of any competitor.
In the Wimbledon mens competition, Roger Federer (4/6, Sportingbet) is 1/66 at Sportingbet to beat Marc Giquel.
