Woods In Pain At US Open
Friday 13 June 2008 at 08:49
US Open favourite Tiger Woods is still suffering from the knee injury that has kept him away from golf for the past six weeks.
After carding a 72 in the first round of the Major yesterday to leave him one over par, the world number one told Sky Sports that he "winced" in pain several times through the 18 holes at Torrey Pines.
"The knee is a bit sore right now. It is what it is, you've got to deal with it and continue playing," he remarked.
Woods got off to the worst possible start with a double-bogey on the first hole, while playing partners Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott both made par.
He played OK for the rest of the day, however, and lies just one shot behind Mickelson going into round two - and four shots off Justin Hicks and Kevin Streelman's lead.
Woods remains the favourite to win his third US Open, with Bet 365 offering odds of 7/2.
Meanwhile, Mickelson has moved in to 13/2 with Totesport, while two-under Geoff Ogilvy is 12/1 at Paddy Power.
