Woods Happy With Mickelson US Open Pairing Says Coach
Wednesday 11 June 2008 at 10:09
Tiger Woods' pairing with Phil Mickelson for the first round of the US Open is likely to help him play better. At least this is the opinion of his swing coach Hank Haney, who told the Associated Press (AP) Woods is relishing the opportunity of playing alongside his rival. "The guy loves a challenge," Haney remarked. "And he loves this pairing with Mickelson. This will get him into the game quickly." Woods is the 7/2 favourite at William Hill to win his third US Open title at Torrey Pines this weekend, but with suggestions that he is yet to fully recover from a knee injury, a number of other players are coming into the spotlight. Mickelson is one of them. The 8/1 shot with Ladbrokes is looking to improve on his numerous runner-up spots in the past and continue the form that saw him win the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial last month. Sergio Garcia (20/1, Stan James) and Jim Furyk (35/1, William Hill) also look like strong contenders, although the players have no doubts about who is the favourite. Both suggested to the AP that even though Woods is injured, it would shock nobody if he pulled off a victory.
