Woods Deserves To Be Favourite For US Open Says Couples
Monday 09 June 2008 at 09:10
Despite still struggling with a knee injury, Tiger Woods is rightfully the favourite for the US Open at Torrey Pines this week.
At least this is according to former Masters winner Fred Couples, who suggested to the Associated Press that Woods can still beat the rest of the field even if he is not 100 per cent fit.
Referring to world number two Phil Mickelson, Couples remarked: "If Tiger is healthy, I still put him ahead of Phil.
"If his knee is wiggling, it's going to be hard ... He's still the guy to beat."
Couples was not going all out to predict a Woods win, however.
After suggesting earlier in the year that the two-time champion was going to come out on top with ease, Couples said the injury issue does make choosing a victor a lot more difficult.
Following Couples' statement, punters can get odds of 5/2 on Woods to win the US Open with Blue Square, while Mickelson is 8/1 with Boylesports.
Sergio Garcia is the 22/1 third favourite with Bet 365, followed by Padraig Harrington, who is 25/1 at Ladbrokes.
