Garcia Claims Confidence Ahead Of Memorial Tournament
Thursday 29 May 2008 at 08:34
Sergio Garcia has said his confidence has been given a huge lift ahead of the Memorial Tournament today.
The Spaniard, who is among the seven top ten golfers making their way to Muirfield for the competition's start , was quoted by the Associated Press as suggesting his victory at The Players Championship has given him an extra degree of self-assurance.
"It's definitely a boost of confidence," he remarked. "There's no doubt about that.
"I guess at the end of the day, every tournament is different - and winning the Players was great."
When discussing where he would most like to perform best, however, he mentioned the US and British Opens before the PGA Tour, implying that his mind might not be fully on the job this weekend.
World number two Phil Mickelson, who is the favourite at 7/1 with Blue Square, was also quoted as saying he was thinking about the US Open, although he "would like to play well this week".
Garcia is the joint-second most-fancied player in the betting, with Paddy Power offering 18/1 on him and Stewart Cink.
