Muir To Unleash Fire At Epsom
Tuesday 20 May 2008 at 09:31
Saphira's Fire is likely to run in the Epsom Oaks, the unbeaten filly's trainer William Muir has revealed.
She won on her debut at Wolverhampton last month and then beat the Barry Hills-trained Cruel Sea to claim victory in the listed Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.
That form and her performances on the gallops have persuaded Saphira's Fire's owners that it is probably worth paying the £20,000 supplementary fee to run in the classic, Muir told the Racing Post.
He added: "If all continues to go well up to the supplementary point at the six-day stage, I estimate it's 90 per cent likely that we'll put her in the Oaks because she deserves to take her chance."
Following Muir's comments Saphira's Fire is best-priced at 16/1 with Bet365 for the classic.
Musidora victor Lush Lashes remains 11/4 favourite with Stan James for the Epsom Oaks, although trainer Jim Bolger has said she is not certain to compete.
One filly who will be in the stalls at Epsom is Clowance, winner of last week's Swettenham Stud Trial at Newbury.
Clowance is now best-priced at 12/1 with Ladbrokes and trainer Roger Charlton told At The Races she has a "good chance" of a top-four finish.
