Hughton Backs Venables To Become Next Ireland Manager
Monday 28 January 2008 at 16:47
Former Tottenham assistant manager Chris Hughton has backed Terry Venables to become the next manager of the Republic of Ireland.
The ex-England boss is rated at 5/4 with Paddy Power and, following the withdrawal of Gerard Houllier, looks set to step into the hot seat.
And Hughton, who played under Terry Venables during his stay in north London, revealed his belief that El Tel could be the right man for the job.
He said: "If you look at the criteria, he's a manager with a very good CV, he's not working at the moment so he's available and he is somebody who has worked at different levels of the game."
Hughton added: "The fact that he's worked abroad and with an international team is a plus and as regards his manner, he's a coach that has generally had good relationships with players."
Meanwhile Kenny Dalglish is rated at 3/1 with Ladbrokes to become the next Ireland manager.
