Daniel Day-Lewis Favourite To Land Globe
Thursday 10 January 2008 at 09:17
Daniel Day-Lewis is widely fancied to land the Golden Globe for best Drama Actor at this year's reduced version of the awards.
Day-Lewis, who is nominated for his performance in There Will Be Blood, is 2/5 with Sky Bet to win the award while George Clooney could cause an upset, priced at 5/1 with Expect, for his role in Michael Clayton.
However, the winner will not be able to collect the award in front of millions after the ceremony for the show was cancelled.
With a number of celebrities set to snub the show in support of the Screen Writers Guild, who are presently on strike, the decision was taken to instead announce the results in a press conference.
A disappointed Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organisation in charge of the awards, said: "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favourite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television.
"We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled," he added.
Meanwhile, Viggo Mortensen is the bookies rank outsider to win the Golden Globe for best Drama Actor, rated at 20/1 with Sky Bet for his role in Eastern Promise.
