Sanders Draws Level With Spencer
Thursday 08 November 2007 at 11:05
Seb Sanders landed an exciting double in the evening fixtures at Kempton yesterday (November 7th) to draw level with Jamie Spencer, as the jockey's championship draws to a thrilling close.
Despite Sanders dramatic comeback, he still remains the slight outsider with the majority of the bookmakers. Both Ladbrokes and Coral have Spencer as the 4/7 favourite and Sanders as the 5/4 underdog.
Although the pair are now neck and neck, with 185 wins a piece, Sanders will be hoping to win an appeal from an overturned race at Newmarket, which he was disqualified from allowing Spencer, who finished second, to claim the win.
And it seems that Sanders is desperate to beat Spencer to claim his first crown. With Spencer claiming that a special price be created for the champion jockey, Sanders claimed that the honour was enough.
He said: "That's entirely up to him. I think being champion jockey's a great honour and hopefully one day I'll be one.
"At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it was a fiver or five grand, I'd still be trying me hardest."
