Nalbandian Topples Federer In Paris
Friday 02 November 2007 at 14:29
Argentine David Nalbandian has beaten world number one Roger Federer for the second time in just two weeks, knocking him out of the Paris Masters - and cutting his odds of winning the tournament.
The victory means that Nalbandian is now the second favourite, behind Spain's Rafael Nadal, to claim the Paris crown, with odds of 4/1 with Betfair.
Gracious in defeat, Federer credited his nemesis and said: "He's so dominant from the baseline."
"It's tough to be aggressive three metres behind the baseline. I wish the court could be faster - that's how it's supposed to be indoors - but I guess not here."
And revelling in his second upset in as many weeks, Nalbandian said: "Federer's the number one in the world.
"You always have to be at 100 per cent. I was, just like in Madrid."
Meanwhile, British hopeful Andrew Murray faces off against Richard Gasquet for a place in the semi-finals.
The Scotsman is rated at 6/1 with Betfair to win the tournament and keep his hopes of qualifying for the Shanghai Masters Cup alive.
