Murray Slashes Odds With Nieminen Victory
Thursday 01 November 2007 at 10:06
Andy Murray saw his odds to win the Paris Masters slashed after his second round defeat of Jarko Nieminen.
The British number one beat his Finnish rival 7-5, 6-3 and saw his odds of claiming the Paris crown cut to 8/1 with William Hill.
And the Scotsman put his minor car accident behind him to keep his outside chance of qualifying for the Shanghai Masters Cup.
Following his victory Murray remained hopeful that he could win in the French capital and move a step closer to playing in the elite end-of-season tournament.
Murray, the world number 11, said: "I said a year ago I knew early-morning starts would be something I had to get used to. I've worked on it. The way I started today was really good and I came through it well."
He added: "Everyone is thinking about Shanghai, but I need these guys to lose.
"I'm just happy to have a shot after a few months out. I feel fresh and if I play like I did last week, I've got a good chance here I think."
To play in Shanghai, Murray will have to leapfrog Tommy Haas, Tommy Robredo, Tomas Berdych and James Blake to gain a place in the top eight.
