England Squad Fit Ahead Of Clash With Hosts France
Monday 08 October 2007 at 15:59
England's chances of defeating the hosts France in the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup have been boosted with the news that the entire squad should be fit and available for selection.
France are currently the favourites to win the match on 1/4 and England are priced at 11/4 to win with Stan James, while the draw in 80 minutes is priced at 20/1.
Speaking about the up coming match England coach Brian Ashton said: "We can compete at the same level as France, there's no doubt in my mind about that.
"We should have beaten them at Twickenham in August. I know that and so do the players."
England and France have met three times in previous World Cups, with England victorious in the quarter-final in 1991 in Paris, and in the semi-final four years ago. France won a third place play-off between the two countries in 1995.
Former England hooker Brian Moore fancies England's chances this time. He told the BBC: "The undoubted truth is they [England] have a history of wins against France, and playing in Paris can be a difficult fixture for the home team if they don't play very well from the start.
"England have been building through the tournament and been getting better and better."
