Accusations Fly As Book Opens On Jenkins Successor
Monday 01 October 2007 at 16:45
As the Welsh Rugby Union looks at what went wrong for the team in the World Cup, Stan James has opened a book on who will replace sacked coach Gareth Jenkins.
Former captain Ieuan Evans said a lack of discipline was a main cause for Jenkin's failure.
"Jenkins made mistakes and allowed discipline to slip in the squad," Evans told BBC Wales' Scrum V rugby show.
"But there's no way Jenkins would have coached Wales to play the way they did in the first half against Fiji.
"There's a culture of complacency, the players having an undue influence, the new coach must address the problems."
Robbie Deans is currently favourite to be that new coach with odds of 7/2 with Stan James.
Deans is from New Zealand and is currently in charge of Canterbury Crusaders.
Other runners in the frame include Eddie Jones (5/1), Warren Gatland (10/1), and Nick Mallett (8/1).
Former Wales coaches Steve Hansen (16/1) and Scott Johnson (10/1) have also said they could return.
Phil Davies is the leading Welshman in the running on 8/1. However, another former Wales captain, Jonathan Davies, said "no Welsh coach will want the job".
