England To Get A Drubbing?
Friday 14 September 2007 at 09:33
With England players seemingly dropping like flies, few but the most patriotic fans will be backing England when they meet the in-form South Africans in the Rugby World Cup this evening.
The Springboks are clear favourites with odds of 1/10 to win with Bet365 and with England missing captain Phil Vickery, as well as fly-halves Jonny Wilkinson and Olly Barkley, punters will have to look away from the winning odds for a return.
That return could be found in the winning margin.
On the two previous meetings between the teams in June and May of this year the Boks won by a margin of 33 and 48 points respectively.
The chances of South Africa repeating those feats are priced at 10/1 for a 31 to 35 point winning margin with Bet365 and 40/1 for a 46 to 50 point winning margin with SkyBet.
In the South African team confidence is high and with Bryan Habana widely considered to be one of the best finishers in the game odds of 13/2 with Stan James on him scoring the first try could be worth a punt, SkyBet meanwhile are pricing him at 10/1 to score three or more tries.
Also of interest is the fact full-back Percy Montgomery will equal Joost van der Westhuizen's record of 89 caps when he takes to the field and is South Africa's leading points scorer in Test rugby, he needs just three more tonight to reach 800.
SkyBet are offering odds of 11/8 that he will score under 12 or 12 to 15 points and 13/5 that he will blow England away and score 16 or more.
For those England fans unable to bring themselves to bet on the opposition SkyBet are offering odds of 6/4 that England can manage to cobble together two or more tries.
